>Buffalo has not been an attractive destination for NHL players for more than a decade. The old saying in league circles had been, “The best part about playing in Buffalo is you can’t get traded to Buffalo.”
>That’s starting to change. Over the last two seasons, the Sabres have established themselves as a rising team and potential contender in the Eastern Conference. This week, NHL teams and agents descended on Buffalo for the annual NHL Scouting Combine. The event is centered around interviewing and testing for more than 100 draft-eligible players, but the week leading up is a busy week of meetings for agents and teams. This is the time of year when players entering the final season of their contract might be looking to be traded if their team isn’t willing to offer a contract extension. Typically, the Sabres are a common team on no-trade lists for players. But as one agent said this week, “Buffalo is starting to come off a lot of lists.”
___
>Adams and his staff were busy this week interviewing draft prospects during the NHL Scouting Combine. It’s always best to not draw too many conclusions from the specific player meets, but the Sabres did draft a few players they met with this time last year. So here’s an incomplete list of players the Sabres met with this week and their rankings on Scott Wheeler’s latest board.
>* Matthew Wood (10) RW
* David Reinbacher (12) RHD
* Eduard Sale (14) LW
* Axel Sandin Pellikka (16) LHD
* Colby Barlow (17) LW
* Quentin Musty (18) LW
* Etienne Morin (32) LHD
* Oliver Bonk (41) RHD
* Gavin McCarthy (77) RHD
* Jakub Dvorak (85) RHD
* Unranked: Sawyer Mynio, LHD

Can we please draft Oliver Bonk if for no reason other than the memes? Stacking the defense pipeline is just an added bonus.
