At this point I’d just like to see him play! But for those 3-4 games… *chefs kiss*!

I think most people have a nuanced view on this topic.

He seems like a great guy, seems to get along with players well, and he is a clutch scorer.

He is injury prone beyond normal (I mean… nickname Patches is enough said). There’s no guarantee he’ll be back to form next year after the Achilles surgery. He’s a risky investment so we’ll absolutely have to use cap space to get another patches-esque scorer as a primary plan and treat Patches as a ‘nice to have’.

However, yes, most of us would like to see him back on a ‘trial/cheap’ deal due to everything mentioned above. His upside is huge if he is actually healthy and produces.

I’ve basically written him as a Cane tbh. Even coming back, he could go down at any moment. I’d rather have someone take his place with more physical dependability, not score as many goals.. than have Patches back momentarily scoring a lot of goals. If that makes sense.

At the right price he’s worth the risk IMO. But do Dundon, Don, Rod, etc want to take the risk again that the guy they want to be their scorer only plays a handful of games before succumbing to another injury? Does Max and his agent feel strongly enough about Carolina to not play the weak UFA market looking for the best guaranteed money deal they can find? TBD!

I’d love to see him back, but for the right price. It’s a gamble we’ve took (and lost) on already.

    1.5mill, heavy on bonuses.

  7. bk00pi

Sure, but that shouldn’t prevent them from bringing in another proven (maybe younger and less injury prone lol) goal scorer.

  8. Skidoo54

I hope he leaves Carolina cause I want him to play for one of my teams again lol. If he gets hurt he gets hurt but if he doesn’t he will be a huge boost to any team

In my opinion, no, but I don’t feel very strongly either way. One thing I’ve thought about here is about trade deadline strategy. Even if Pacioretty’s next contract is a ~$2M cap hit, I imagine they’ll be tight enough against the ceiling that any major injury necessitates placing him on LTIR to accommodate a call-up. If it were me, I’d get aggressive in this summer’s trade market, and then try to keep those same aggressive options open for the deadline. That means accruing cap space for as long as possible, which probably means passing on a risk like Pacioretty.

Another off-season day, another Patches article.

i’m cool with resigning him, as long as we bring other players in too. we can’t rely on him being healthy but i think he’s a great fit

Hey guys, this is not related to this, but didn’t wanna make a seperate post about this. Are you able to see r/hockey? Cause it’s like the subreddit is gone for me.

I wouldn’t mind seeing Patches back, but for the right price. We need to have a scorer we can trust to be there. So if we can get Patches for a low price (due to his questionable injuries), so that we can also get a scorer we can rely on. Then yes.

Edit: when I click on r/hockey in my text it says that it’s a private community… I’ve never said anything offensive there or anything. I’m confused. Have I been banned (for unknown reason) or is it something else?

I’ve heard from other family members that know people that are related to him and he wants to play on the canes but is worried about more injures. My gut says if he doesn’t sign with us, he’ll retire

There is a thread about this from yesterday too.
