🗣️"All I know is I've won a Presidents trophy, a Jennings trophy, & we used the same system. We can talk about structure all we want, but I think it was overblown."

I agree with Bruce. Sure, we could have had better structure but structure can only take you so far with a bad D core and shitty goaltending.
Boudreau’s contract with the team ends in two weeks, he said he can’t talk about certain things until then. It’s going to be interesting to see what he says when he can speak freely.
Good coaches change their system to suit their player’s strengths and address their weaknesses.
Not saying he didn’t try to adjust, but it was obvious it wasn’t working. Love Bruce and he’s earned his hardware but all coaches have peaks and valleys with how the game develops too.
But no success in playoffs… Structure may matter Bruce!
Its vancouver…. everything is overblown.
Boudreau was set up to fail all season. Demko injury, all the trade rumors, him on the chopping block since the first month of the season, the tough schedule, starting the season on a long road trip, the list goes on. Tocchet had it easy when he came in with rock bottom expectations. Hopefully we can get off to a good start next season and not play catch up. The key part this offseason is getting the Petey deal done, we don’t need the noise going in to the season.
I love Bruce, but the reality is he was here to bridge the gap between Green and Tochett.
He was more or less a ~100 game interim coach.
That said, he handled it like a champ. Total pro.
Surely the lack of success had nothing to do with 5 of our 6 defencemen playing at or below replacement level. I don’t think anyone in this sub complained about the state of the defense even once last offseason. No sir. All thumbs up from us 👍👍
As much as I like Boudreau, this statement here is cocky. Maybe the reason why you were fired is because you couldn’t **adapt**. Using the same old system over and over again isn’t something to be impressed with. Good coaches need to change their structure. The reality is the game changes, structures change, and players get better.
Alain Vigneault was the perfect example of a great coach in Vancouver. In 2006, he was playing the trap because our best player was Luongo and we lacked firepower. Sedins hadn’t exploded with offense yet and Naslund was on decline. With players like Mitchell instead of JovoCop, AV decided the best way to be successful is play defensive. And it got us into the playoffs. Not bad.
As soon as Gillis came on board, we got more offensive weapons. Kesler and Burrows developed into top 6 players. And with the help of Sundin, the Sedins began their dominance. We now had so much offensive prowness we became the #1 scoring team in the league. But if you look at 2006 and 2011, the teams are drastically different in style player. One is a lot more offensive.
Boudreau is a great players coach, but much like his time in Anaheim, his coaching didn’t really elevate the players or the team to the next level. I hope he has some self-realization before jumping into another coaching role, if he chooses.
Here’s what I’m going to say – Bruce’s coaching style works really well when you have a competitive team filled with solid firepower and a shored up defense.
We didn’t have that.
Tbh that’s a horrible answer. It doesn’t address anything and just says « look what I have done in the past, there can’t be anything wrong with me today! »
Buckling in for another fun offseason
Love Bruce, but for this Canucks team, they need to tocchet to get rid of the country club locker room
Boudreau’s system sucked ass, nothing he says changes that
I always think that the Canucks look out of shape, especially the first couple of months. And not surprisingly that is the first thing Tocchet clued in on. And most of the players appear to have bought in. Petey, Miller and Hughes say they will train in the off season in Vancouver. And Kuzzy looks like even when traveling he is working on himself.
Accurate take. It’s simply a bad team that only shows wildcard hopes if we have stellar goaltending. The core is not enough to build around.
Literally any coach in NHL history would have had absolutely zero chance of a successful season with this roster last year. There’s not even a point in talking about structure, systems, and adapting to fit personnel when that personnel is flat out not good enough to compete at this level. Even if Bruce wasn’t going to be the coach of the future, the team (management) completely fucked him and hung him out to dry
100 percent. These guys just wake up when they get a coach fired lol
