@Canucks de Vancouver

That doesn’t take away from the fact that during that time he played mostly uninspired and shitty hockey.

  2. JTMilleriswortha1st

Fuck Jim Benning until 2031 🖕🏻🖕🏻

  3. CamaroGirl96

So he’s blaming the team for his bad play? Lmao. I think he brought that on himself. But I can understand why he’s upset.

  4. Batsinvic888

idk man, maybe at least play up to 60% of your contract for like 10 games.

Everyone else on the team was able to string together some good games in the last 2 years.

  5. AQSafari

What’s difficult is being paid that much, numbers showing on the decline, coming to a team HE WANTED TO BE AT and, with something to prove, STILL playing like shit.

Tough nuts OEL you should have stayed in Phoenix. Fuck Jim Benning

  6. ahundredgrand

Theres no excusing the way he played and I guess you cant ignore that the team went on a tear when he got injured.

  7. Key-Investment6888

The real question to ask is…. Did his gleam go away?

  8. Horvat53

Yeah the coaching and GMs were the reason he was terrible.

  9. Jazzlike_Kick_5434

Yeah I don’t think Oliver has had a very good understanding of his place in the game for the last 5 years.

Its not coaching, or who the GM is. Injuries have taken their toll to the point where he’s not even close to being worth his contract.

A bottom 6 guy making league minimum, that’s about all he’s worth.

  10. [deleted]

The reason there have been 3 coaches and 2 GM’s is because your fucking client can’t play hockey anymore and is taking up so much of our cap space you fucking moron.

  11. junk222

Yeah sure the buyout wouldn’t have happened if Benning was still here… Thought that sends chills down my spine 🥶

  12. westleysnipez

I wish OEL the best. He’s still a reliable #4, just can’t be paying #1 money for the quality of play he was delivering. Just a bad situation all around, I had hoped he’d turn around once out of Arizona, but it’s clear his injuries have taken a toll and he doesn’t have that top pairing defender skill anymore.

  13. metrichustle

If we had 2016 OEL, we wouldn’t be in this timeline. He was not good and barely acceptable as a top 4. His stats were closer to a 5th or 6th defenceman.

  14. fastcurrency88

He played like shit most of the time. Sure there was turnover up top but most players on the team at least had a period of inspired play.

  15. timorousme

    Love that last line

If only Benning was still here!

  16. Swimming_Departure18

Good riddance to you and that said GM. Holding on to your contract was holding this team in a logjam. What did you expect to be 4y @ 7.35m 3rd pair defenseman?

  17. Solitude_09

Yes, the GM that brought him here is no longer here because of eight years of ineptitude topped off by THIS GODDAMN TRADE! OEL was the final nail in the coffin that finally lost a GM his job.

I wish OEL the best but his time in Vancouver was disastrous and will forever be looked at as an incredibly dark time to be a Canucks fan. 👻

  18. Remember the person, folks.

OEL the player ≠ Oliver the person.

  19. parazaf

Too soon to call him a ‘legend’?

  20. J_Golbez

I’m amazed the slumlord Acqulini’s could be convinced to give up some blueberry $ to do this buy-out. Now, how about some renos on the aging dump Rogers’ and a new practice facility?

  21. nodarknesswillendure

I mean I feel bad, but I also don’t. I get paid to work hard and still have to work a side gig to make ends meet, he’s gonna do nothing and be getting paid millions for years so…

  22. flyingboat

The last two sentences read like a Schrute funeral. You’re just saying facts about him.

  23. NotoriousBananaHavoc

Calling it Toronto will give him a 5×3 deal

  24. TimsAFK

Kevin, buddy, Vancouver was a dumpster fire for sure but your client is on what was widely regarded as the worst contract in the NHL, miraculously forced a trade to one of only two teams he said he would go to and then played ***subpar hockey at best the entire time***. This should’ve always been an expected outcome.

  25. LumberjackCDN

Knowing Canuck luck he’ll have a tremendous bounce back next year

  26. MRFINEWINE1

The GM that brought him here will never work in the NHL again. That GM shares as many brain cells with a rock or a hammer.

  27. steven09763

I called it . It’s gonna be another 59 years

  28. bwoah07_gp2

Well, if there’s one thing this buyout shows is that ownership ain’t afraid to shell out the cash.

I’m not to disappointed. OEL played horribly for us.

  29. GoldenChest2000

Canucks couldn’t clear cap without giving up significant assets to move middle six pieces in Beau, Boeser or Garland (Myers too). It had to be done.

  30. goneballisticagain

Amazing how fucking bad Jim Benning was at his job, holy……

  31. avmp629

I really hope he gets healthy and finds a team that needs a power play guy

  32. brandedwaffle

Worst trade ever in team history. Fuck Benning

  33. OutlawCountryFan

Much of the fanbase didn’t want him here from the beginning, myself included

  34. BADGERxxxFACE

How can OEL be surprised? My dead ancestors played harder than him.
I’m happy the Canucks balls are finally dropping

  35. Kava9610

I don’t know if this has been properly addressed in this thread, but FUCK BENNING!

  36. g0kartmozart

The GM that brought him here will never get another GM job in the NHL precisely because he brought him here.

  37. theblondebasterd

Fuck fuck fuck. 4.6 million or whatever in two years for two years; they’re really hoping that the cap really increases but now they’ve just burned that whole increase. Pretty sure we’re doomed.

  38. Squancher_2442

NCAA free agents looked better than he did in the last days of season. Worst trade in Canucks history has been changed from the Neely trade to the OEL deal.

  39. Hairy-Piglet-470

He was good year 1 healthy, and horrendous year 2 playing injured. Wish we tested it 1 more year but I trust this management group.
