Another feather in Jim Benning’s cap
LOL! Yup…
It’s arguably the biggest mistake in the salary cap era.
I definitely feel a degree of schadenfreude about this. FAQ deserves to be almost 20 million dollars out of pocket because of all of the years he kept Jim Benning on as GM. If anything I wish it cost FAQ more.
Its been a strange 24 hours for Canucks fans. The OEL buyout was in some ways good news but knowing we’re losing cap space is another punch in the gut.
The worst part of this is how easily it could’ve been avoided. There was so much risk that only a desperate team and desperate owner would even consider this.
I still don’t see a path to cup in Vancouver, there are way too many other excellent organizations we’ll never be able to beat.
Its weird how the OEL buyout has been the lowest point for me as a Canuck fan.
Makes u wonder if Benning has any credibility left in this sport, e experience is one thing but decisions are another.
Agreed, that’s its a mistake, but its necessary since I think Petey’s upcoming extension forced management’s hand.
Does anyone know if the Sedins had any input on the OEL acquisition?
I thought I heard that but not sure.
OEL is worse than Neely? Check.
Benning is worse than Messier? Check.
Now the next one to beat/lose to: will Benning be remembered as worse than Milbury as worst GM in NHL history?
Gut says no since imagine trading a 4OA HOF’er to buyout your own 1OA. Maybe the only thing preventing Benning from being even worse was our lottery luck and Milbury not being bound by a salary cap.
I would go as far to say as this is the worst trade in Canucks history.
Benning now public enemy no. 1 in Vancouver after Aqualini
