Had you told me 20 years ago Vegas would have an NHL team, let alone a Stanley Cup winning one, I would've called you crazy. Still hasn't set in yet lol

Hill was just too good between the pipes. The Panthers were not taking advantage of power plays and were taking too many penalties.
an unwritten rule ain’t applying to the stanley cup final man. you’re gonna score till the wheels come off because they are not gonna come back on you. in the regular season, i’d say about a 5-6 goal lead for sure they chill out
Florida's best player Matthew Tkachuk didn't play this game due to a broken sternum but was able to play through it in games 3 & 4. Unreal what injuries these players play through
Conn Smythe Trophy is a trophy given the NHL playoffs MVP it was introduced in 1964-1965 Season
last time a team scored 9 goals in the stanley cup finals was in 1942 and its only happened twice before this. total blow out
Vegas Golden Knights won the Stanley Cup in just their 6th year of their existence in the NHL
This year's Stanley Cup final four: Dallas, Raleigh, Broward County in south Florida, and Las Vegas. Overnight temps remain above 20C this time of year in these locations. The 1993 Montreal Canadiens remain the most recent Canadian club to lift the cup.
Mark stones hat trick was the first in a clincher since BEFORE D DAY
Vegas is the second youngest team and the first is Seattle going into their 3rd season and the Panthers are the 7th youngest their first season in 1993
The NBA finals and the NHL finals were strangely similar, 2 8th seeded Florida team versus 2 Rocky mountain West 1st seeds with the West team winning in 5 and being their first championship
It's completely unbelievable to me how fast this team won it all. Finalist in their first season to winning it all within 6 years. It's been done faster in sports before but never this extreme, considering how alien a sport like hockey is to a city like Las Vegas
Watch Alex ovechkin lifting the cup
If you get a breakaway you take it but otherwise many teams will switch too a defensive gameplan late in the game instead of running up the score.
The Vegas Knights tire other teams out because they have so much depth of talent. They have four good lines. .o
No mercy rules, never stop playing. When it got down to about 30 seconds left they just played catch in their D zone to kill the clock
So happy . This team has truly captured our cities hearts . Never will forget this
They jus had the better squad, I wouldn’t be surprised if they ran it back.
There is really no scoring mercy rule in hockey. The only thing a team can do really is play their 3rd and 4th line guys more and rest the 1st and 2nd lines more.
You do an excellent job with Hockey. Are you able to see it in England? I have been to many games and in person it is even better. Think about the NHL when there were only six teams. The quality of the plyers was very high. You should see Bobby Orr, Gordie Howe and Rocket Richard.
Vegas Golden Knights are the much better team and they have depth, the Panthers haven’t! I hope this team is the same next season it was a blast watching them playing hockey, that was the best of the best. Congratulations Vegas!
The "tired" and "out of gas" comments were to do with the length of the ice time shifts the Panther pairing offensive lines had, versus the Knight's Defensive players. That's one of the benefits of Home Ice advantage, the Home team gets last line change, and can switch match ups between respective offensive/defensive players the Away team puts on the ice. This can lead to the Away team leaving some players out longer than they ordinarily would on a shift, and they end up being exhausted and slower than the fresh new line up from the Home team. It's more complicated than that really, but you get the drift I hope.
You guys are making a hockey fan out of me. I guess it is time for me to learn along with you about this super exciting game. I was in Vegas last summer and the temp was 45 C and there was a lot of news about their hockey team on the TV. I remember thinking, this is the most unlikely place in the world to talk hockey. Now, a year later, they are champions of the hockey world. I guess those guys knew they had a pretty good team. Congrats to them. What an entertaining playoff and final. They dominated. ♣
Gotta get a reaction to a goals of the year video!
VGK all day! Good reaction as always, cheers from Las Vegas
God damn! Is the Vegas goal horn obnoxious or what?! 🫨🫨🫨🫨🤯
6:25 The announcer was referring to the current in-game situation, not that the panthers were tired as a team. Before that Goal Vegas had about 2-3 minutes of sustained pressure. Florida wasn't able to get the puck out of their end of the ice, and weren't able to make a line change. Your own bench is always closest to your goal in Periods 1&3, and farthest from your own goal in the 2nd.
This can encourage situations like what happened to Florida here. Vegas with constant control of the puck inside their own center line is able to make quick changes right in front of their offensive zone, cycling fresh legs on the ice constantly. Florida unable to clear, cannot leave their defensive zone unguarded to go down in front of their offensive zone to change. Even NHL Athletes who are some of the most insanely conditioned on the planet will be completely out of gas if a shift goes much longer than 2 minutes. Especially a high intensity shift like constant defensive zone battles.
Eventually the entire game for them becomes "can the gassed team find a way to ice the puck?" They won't even be able to change after, but the 30 second stoppage is what they desperately need to hopefully muster up enough strength to make 1 play to get a clean clear and get off the ice. You might even see the affected team call their only timeout they get a game after icing it, to give their desperate defenders a few extra minutes to catch their breath.
Something like this is a huge factor in games, that you'll never get to see on a highlight compilation.
And rather than have my other comment be insanely long… There isn't an unwritten rule in hockey to not run up the score. The only time you'll see it is when the losing team initiates it. If they feel the lead is insurmountable they will essentially surrender by not pressuring/pursuing the puck. They will basically let the team with the lead hold the puck in their own end and run the clock out. In that situation it would be extremely poor form to still try and score, and I don't think anyone has ever violated that. It typically will never happen outside of 2 minutes left in the game (due to maybe a comeback is possible & respect for the fans)
If the team that's behind is still playing, then all bets are off.
I’m pretty sure you guys are talking about a “mercy rule” and they don’t do that in professional sports at least not in North America.. and I hope they would never do that because that’s just stupid. I really really hope they don’t do that over there for European football (soccer) ?? that would make it even worse in my eyes. If you get the crap beat out of you, you keep going until it’s over. I’m just glad there hockey players in most other North American sports don’t fall down every single time they are tapped lightly and act like they were shot 10 times dramatically. Because it seems like no matter what league I watch with soccer no matter how good they all do it. They all play that dramatic crap and then get right back up a second later like nothing ever happened. I am confused why that’s allowed to happen in any league. When everybody knows 90% of those are flopping. I wouldn’t even last playing soccer because I would end up snapping because of the dramatic stuff. I played soccer, my whole wife until after high school. Never in any of the games I play, which was a lot until 18 years old. Do I ever remember anybody from any of the teams fake falling to get penalties like they do in Europe.. professional! I’ll shut the hell up now and I’m sure I’ve said this to you guys before anyways. I would love soccer if it wasn’t for the weak penalties every five seconds and the horrible horrible rule when the game is tied at the end.
WHY THE HELL WOULD THEY MAKE A TIE GAME GO TO PENALTY KICKS AFTER BOTH TEAMS (for example the last World Cup months ago) YOU DONT GOTO THE BIGGEST TOURNAMENT IN THE WORLD TO WIN THEM ALL UNTIL THE LAST GAME JUST TO HAVE IT GOTO PENALTY KICKS. OK I’ll take caps off from now on because I’m looking insane.. 🤷♂️😆😆 both teams should play until one scores no matter what sport it is. It doesn’t matter if they have to play for 20 hours straight.. they get paid all that money they should be able to tough it out. Not go to you they shoot out! After all that hard work, both teams do. Whole world watching.. just insane to me. NHL would play until there is a winner. Until they have to start eating pizza during intermission because they haven’t played in so long lmao. All right I’m done now. I’m sure you guys won’t even see this. Change a few rules for soccer and then I love it. Just needs to be more physical without all of the dramatic baby stuff. Anytime that happens the player who FLOPPED should be kicked out of the game right away. Guarantee you it would stop all of the baby crap. But it doesn’t seem like anybody wants to stop that over there in Europe because it’s been going on forever and it seems like they love it… honestly me and my hockey buddies laugh seeing that type of stuff. OK I’m going to F off now. 🫡
6:28 The announcers were talking about Vegas' 4th goal which was right after their 3rd goal and the Florida Panthers were on defense for nearly 2 straight minutes, one player breaking his stick early in the shift, and they couldnt get new players on the ice because they are on defense, and eventually Vegas out played them
In regular season it's definitely not necessary to keep scoring in a game like this, but on the other hand, hockey can be so flukey sometimes, there is never a reason to let up. Vegas went through giving up 4 goals in 5 minutes a few years ago. It's always unlikely, never impossible.
A truly masterful job by you guys covering the. NHL. Looking forward to next fall!
LV Golden Knights: hey this Stanley Cup is kinda easy, only took us 6yrs to win it!
sad Toronto Maple Leafs noises
Vegas is a real hometown city, full of service and industry workers. The natives are super loyal and love their town. Great for them.
you stop trying to score when the clock reads 0.0
Love your reaction’s. As a longtime Las Vegas resident but a longer hockey fan. THIS GAME is EXACTLY how EVERY FAN wished for!!!
I call “BS” on Tkatchuk’s “broken sternum” from game 3. Didn’t seem to bother him in game 4 using his arms & stick to choke Pietrangelo in a stranglehold. I also didn’t see ANY difficulties during his press conference after game 5. I think he couldn’t do the handshake. His antics must’ve been dejecting as the rest of the team suffered from REAL INJURIES to make it to the Finals. If his injury WAS that serious that he had to be helped to suit up??? The NHLPA should look into it further.
Mark Stone’s hat trick in a Finals was last done the first in Cup winning series was 101 years ago!!!
The Knight’s worked very hard using a myriad of revolving player’s. Many called up from the Silver Knights. They ALL dressed for Game 5!!! They all hoisted & kissed the Cup bcuz their names will be engraved forever.
Go KNIGHTS GO!!! Omg we will hoist our FIRST Stanley Cup Champions banner!!! It’s gonna be AWESOME!!!!
Mark Stone's hat trick was the first in a Stanley Cup clinching game since Hap Dye of the Toronto St. Patricks 🆚 the Vancouver Millionaires in the 1922 Cup Final.
10:51 Yeah, no. Hockey isn't a soft sport like Baseball. You want the other team to stop scoring? Then stop them. No unwritten rules around making sure your opponents feelings aren't hurt.
It’s party time, time to get to that Championship Parade!!!
I’m sure you blokes got a bunch of new subscribers from Las Vegas, including me!
