  1. I honestly think the trade would be proponent on either Jesper Bratt or Timo Mier having issues with resigning. There is money to pay them both & they are not going to be able to afford Hellebuyck without one of them being sent back to Winnepeg along with Vitek Vanicek. Age and durability would be another concern given this teams history with the Corey Schneider signing. I think Akira Schmid has earned the right to compete for the starting job next fall and economically it is not in the cards for NJ to make a move like this.

  2. If the team is good, the goalie will be good. You don’t need an elite goaltender to win anymore. As long as someone makes all the routine saves and the team plays well in front of him. Don’t waste cap space on a tendy

  3. saying goal-tending was the issue is such a copout. A lot of the devils losses were blowouts and they were because of how terrible they played with the puck and in front of their goalie. It wasn't 3-3 games with the goalie letting in an easy game winner, it was a lot of 5-1 and 6-1 losses, simply no puck management, defensive breakdowns, and maybe a few easy goals. I wouldn't mind getting an all-star goalie on the devils and I know this was their first run at the playoffs for a lot of players so I have hope for the future. I just don't think the devs should be so quick to sell on players they've developed and putting our hopes on a 30 year old goalie. If we play terrible in front of Hellebuyck, he will also struggle

  4. As far as NJ is concerned, I think if it happens, it won't happen until late in the summer. The Devils are more concerned right now with Bratt, Meier, Haula, and Tatar negotiations. Not to say that they can't walk and chew gum but they will most likely sit pat and see what Schmid's & Vanecek's stamina is like next year (this was their 1st taste as legit starts and they just were tired come the playoffs) Plus, next year the salary cap will go up a great deal and a $6 million goalie would be more doable.

  5. If memory serves me right Hellebuyck is still under contract through next season. I think the Devils will stick with what they got (At least for another season) and if he is their target go after him in free agency and save the players and draft picks
