  1. THANK YOU. THANK YOU!!!!
I have been saying this for years since they signed Marner and Nostrils to those ridiculous deals while they were still RFA'S.

Doobass is without a doubt the stupidest manager ever in the last 25 years.
    Complete baffoon!

  2. I don’t really understand this Video, regardless of Kyle Dubis or Lou lamerello at GM, Matthews was getting paid a lot. The NYLANDER situation okay that’s different, definitely an over pay

  3. Yet if you have an athletic subscription you’d think Dubas is a genius and Pittsburgh is extremely lucky to have him

  4. sure gms make mistakes but look at how dubas recovered. Right up against the cap and still made good moves (Brining in gio, o rielly) The leafs also were one of the best teams in the last 6 years in the regular season. The players need to produce better in the playoffs that’s not dubas’ fault.

  5. Some bad comparisons here using Caufield. His stats are nowhere near Marner or Matthews at the time of his signing. My real question is this … remove the cap hit, are you saying you wouldn't take Marner or Matthews over Bratt, Hughes, Caufield? Cause if the answer is no, then you would already pay them more than the players mentioned here. I get the point of being cap strapped and shorter term contracts etc., but really we're quibling over maybe a million dollar overpay for Marner, Matthews is fine and Willy has lived up to his deal then some. Same for Tavares, everyone forgets he was a FA and the later years it was clear he wouldn't be worth 11million, but he was actually their number one centre when he joined the team, and remains a point per game(ish) player.

Toronto's only problem is they drafted well, and signed a big free agent then the cap got frozen by the pandemic. They should have moved on from one of their stars but chose not to, making loyalty their mandate has hurt them. With that being said, right now, it's about can this team be coached to play differently come playoff time. Also we are complaining about Nylander and Matthews, but in reality you sign them, it's Marner you may not sign, and then JT's contracts come off the books in 3yrs … be curious what the team does then more than I am with with these Matthews and Nylander.

  6. as a leafs fan i have lost all hope i will wait another few years for this team to get their shit together

  7. Let their contracts run out, let them try free agency, not a problem.
The only player I kind of like out of that bunch is Nylander anyway because he shows some heart out there on the ice.
Matthews, Marner and Tavares can leave.
There needs to be a smarter way of doing business in Toronto.

  8. ottawa has brady tkachuk, tim stutzle and tommy chabot for 8 years 8.5 in average each. that's a big 3 to build around. and look, ottawa has something that toronto does not, cap flexibility.

  9. I think that the Maple Leafs were one of the teams that got screwed the worst by the pandemic. The fact that the salary cap flattened when it had been pretty consistently rising year-on-year is what makes these deals look so insane. Don't get me wrong: I think that the Tavares deal, which then set the ball rolling for the Matthews and Marner deals, is what killed the Leafs and put them in the bad situation they're in now. I think that the flat cap has pushed teams to now do much more of the whole "sign guys young for less and longer" and makes young guys who want to win more likely to accept "sub-market" type of deals. I don't think Dubas is a good GM, but I do think that he isn't as bad as some folks make it out to be. He was aggressive in buying into a direction he thought the league was going, and bet all his chips on it. It looked at first like he was right. Now it's evident he bet wrong and the Leafs are paying the price for it.

Which, as a Habs fan, is something I find impossibly funny.

  10. the leafs are done. keefe will get a fucking extension and they will walk matthews/marner right to their nmc. then they will get bent over by them and overpay once again. fuck this team. im so done with them. they used to be a must watch now i barely even know when they are playing. they will go nowhere and i really dont care. if they ever make it to the finals i will pay attention but they lost me as a fan and im not the only one. none of my friends give a single shit about the leafs anymore

  11. ….About none of this is true. Everyone conveniently forgets that Matthews was happy to sign for longer when he signed. Cole Caufield isn't a reasonable comp for Marner. You were listing Marner's stats off as though they were bad, but somehow also think his very good stats are comparable to Cole Caufield who hasn't played a full season, and doesn't ponder putting up the stats that Marner does. I'll ask you what I ask everyone else that pretends Marner is bad, what is the point, what does it get you?

  12. mcdavid has scored 3 goals more than matthews in their careers this far but matthews has played one season less than mcdavid, he's the #1 goal scorer in hockey with no doubt, no falter over a 7 year sample size, can't say anything about his contracts this far.

  13. Why does every team seem to have star players that care about the fans and team and the Leafs only ever get stars that talk that talk and then hold out for max pay while the other 15 roster players that include a few vets are fighting over a million or two per year?

  14. I understand the point of this video, and management has certanly overpaid Matthews, Marner, Tavares, etc.. But comparing Bratt or Caufield to Matthews is unfair, because Jesper and Cole will never be top #5 players in the world, as Matthews has shown he can be when he won the Rocket Richard or the Hart trophy.

  15. You are judging by the result, not the plan. Those 4 contracts along with a reasonable stable of prospects and mid-lineup players should have been MORE than enough for this squad to make noise in the playoffs. The only stinker deal, to me, is Reilly. Never understood what TO, and the TO media, think is so great about him that he is a foundation for a cup contending defense? He is nowhere close, not even top 15. I hate TO, but the core 4 should be the ones getting blamed here. The money is largely appropriate to their skill level, or should have been for Tavares who regressed badly but that is tough to predict when you see 87 crushing it in his mid/late 30s.

  16. Comparing Caufield to Matthews is downright laughable. A 26 goal scoring winger to a 60 goal scoring centreman that plays a 200 foot game. Give me a break kid.

  17. Thank You Dubas, the slick talking salesman. It's more about how much money they can make instead of the team and please Marner no more " It sucks" every time the Leafs are eliminated from the playoffs.

  18. Yep! The Marner and Mathews contracts are absolute $hit!! I said it the minute they signed them, and it’s slowly made me less of a Leafs fan every year…..and I’m not the only one. Now with the new GM we’re gonna be getting the same garbage.
