These guys went from being "Happy to be in the playoffs", to arguably the best team in the league in a span of a few weeks. That's freaking wild

  2. Well actually the 2006 Stanley Cup parade had two parts: part 1 was at Glenwood Ave in Downtown Raleigh then part two was in PNC arena’s parking lot

  3. Aside from the CBJ, this is my next bandwagon team in these playoffs. Great video man, it made me reminisce how I got in to hockey. ✊

  4. ya this team reminds me of the 98/99 Vegas team really tenacious and charismatic! 😉

  5. The storm surge is great, NHL players don't have to be professional and serious all the time. They should be able to have fun. My favorite parts of hockey often are the off ice short clips or videos getting into the life of these players. Like you said, it adds personality and that attracts new fans.

  6. Job well done. I cried. Grew up in Raleigh and remember both the 06 and 09 cup runs clearly. These Canes have It. We’ll see what the third round brings.

  7. I love the Canes, I LOVE THE CELLYS!! they have connected with the fans in a big way. Now the fans feed off the team, and the team feeds off of the fans. PNC arena has been insane in these playoffs. Huge home ice advantage. The storm surge isn't and never has been for anybody but the Hurricane fans and players. They are respectful in a sense that they always wait until the other team is off the ice, and never do it on another teams ice. Strictly a home ice thing. I hope other teams remember how to have fun as well.

  8. CJ, you both write and narrate wonderfully.

On this subject I'd only had quickly formed opinions based on a handful of clips and commentary from some of the old, stodgy, commentators, some of whom I still, admittedly agree with in many respects.

The narrative you've woven completely changed my perspective with it's passionate rationale. I find it all pretty cheesy, but certainly harmless, and, as you tell it, seems kind of fun. Irrelevant if I love it or not, anyways. The point should be that the most people possible find the most possible joy in a game we all love.

That this team is so down to business in these playoffs, now, is all the proof needed to dispel any suggestions that getting silly with their fans was going to prevent their playing hockey when it's all on the line.

Little good comes from stubborn resistance to change. Great choice of topic. Well argued viewpoint. Exceptionally written and narrated as always.

  9. Great video and thank you for doing it. I think the Surge was born out of the necessity of keeping butts in the seats and providing entertainment for we fans who have had little to cheer about since 2009. Keep up the good work!

  10. How am I just now seeing this? You’ve got it! An absolutely stunning take that should be seen by so many more people. Thank you so much for this.

  11. “The game is fun. The game is a battle. If it’s not fun, why bother? If it’s not a battle, where’s the fun?”
