that’s a little more than I thought he would get, but I guess I don’t mind this signing for our resident goon

$2.2 million total, right?

No offense to Olivier but I don’t understand this. We have so much depth on the wing.

Someone to protect the talent. All for it

Good signing, I liked him in the lineup more than I thought I would. I’m cool with him being our 4RW.

I like the move. This team needs some grit, some sandpaper. Tons of young guys out there looking to make plays. It’s nice knowing we have guys down the lineup willing to protect them. Games can get chippy here and there.

Just to look at the bright side for those think this is too much to give to him: the cap hit is $1.1 million. If he clears waivers and sent down to Cleveland, it is just below the threshold ($1.125 million) in which we get full cap relief.

If you made me guess where a hockey player named Mathieu Olivier was from I would 100 times out of 100 say, « Quebec ». If you said that wasn’t it and made me keep guessing we would literally die before I said, « Biloxi, Mississippi ». 1000 monkeys with 1000 typewriters would guess it faster than me. That’s nuts.

Never a good sign when they list the PIMs with his numbers

Frankly I think anything above league minimum is an overpay but I’m not too worried about it
rixas18
I figured 975k-1 mil. That’s still 4th line pay when he’s just there to block shots, hits and being the team’s designated rat catcher
PresterJohnsKingdom
Too much money and term for what he brings to the table.
Not as bad as the inexplicable Jared Boll contract…at least Olivier can hockey. Not well, but he hockey’s sometimes.

Aside from his benefit on the ice protecting the young guys (and smaller guys — ie Johnny), I think he’s well liked in the room, like a good character guy who may not flash a ton of skill, but he knows the game really well – only seen him in the occassional interview, but he reminds me a lot of Jody in hockey sense and relatability.

Long live the goon!
