I’m not sure I’m down for paying a heavy price of futures and then have to sign a soon to be 29 year old to a 6+ years contract at 9+ million. If we were closer to contending then sure. I think there’s better, younger options out there.

Why? He is old and will command cap and term, we have a very good up and coming d core and really don’t need him.

Yzerman was clear that our window is Larkin and younger. I don’t want to lose assets for someone outside of that.

I would love him if he was 25-26. He will be 29 in the fall which likely puts him well into his 30’s by the time we are contending. Doesn’t fit our window as well on a 8 year extension.

-Indicated he doesn’t want to be on a rebuilding team in Calgary, another way of saying he wants to play for a contender, which we are not.
He just doesn’t excite me enough. However, everything has a price. There’s even conversation to be had about just getting him for the year and seeing if you can’t convince him Detroit is a contender. What’s that price though?
