31 yr old big dude who plays a non-physical game at center like a Nick Bjugstad, average at best skater, one of the worst contracts in the NHL at 7.14M for the next three years, mediocre offensive production for a top-6 center, and a compete level that has been questioned by his last three head coaches.
Even at 50% retention, he’s still a bad contract and can’t see where/why the Canes would be interested.

Not saying he couldn’t help the team but they’re have to retain cap to make it worth our while.

Even then it’s a meh. Though the Canes love to extract value from teams in a tough spot. Burns at $8 million was a piece nobody wanted. Burns at $5.3 million is a great contract. Maybe there is a number they like Hayes at.

I don’t get this one, Hayes doesn’t fit our system at all. He’s slow, doesn’t backcheck, and doesn’t really make up for it with good offensive production or solid faceoff numbers. We’d be much, much better off going after someone like Lindholm

If we’re making a trade with the Flyers I would bring back TDA and put him in Ghost spot.
