Buyout OEL mean Canucks need 1.) Draft the best player if possible in next few year draft because there have no room to make any error for signing new player 2) your own ELC players (forwarder and D man) need to step up and play like 3-4M players in rookie year, and 3.) No room to make any mistake for sign player with long term contract, they need to stop gambling on UFA market and stop giving any big fat long term contract to any player (except Petterson)

If the total savings is 10 million, and he couldve played four more seasons, isnt that like saying he s not even worth 2.5 mill a year (if you take distribution of the cap hit aside). In other words they are mortgaging their future for quick cap space, even though if all we gain is 10 mill, it was probably worth it to keep him for four!

Never a fan of the deal from day one. Giving up a first rounder for an older guy with a huge contract. Now stuck with some portion of his contract for 8 years! All dead cap space. But either option, keeping him for the next four years or the buyout, is terrible

Yeah, it's an 8 year pull to swallow, but if you want to pretend that you're a Cup contender this year you have to do it.
Bad move, same short sighted move… 4 years goes twice as fast as 8… we won't challenge for anything next year anyway…. also possible he has a bounce back season

I'd rather have just dealt with him playing for his contract rather than being bought out and having the Canucks stuck with more cap dead weight..
If management was really serious about cap space and buyouts (as they said), I had strongly believed (for a few months now) that OEL would be the prime candidate. Yeah, this will add 4x$2.1M, but who really knows what the impact will be 4 years from now? Maybe the cap will be so much higher that it's a 1% hit (rather than a 2.5% hit).
The cost of that buyout is insane
Sports contracts doesn’t make sense, it should be based on performance. Us regular folk never get paid millions for slacking let alone a 2 week notice

I dont watch hockey much but Tyler Myers has a 6M cap hit but a 5M signing bonus. Wouldnt he be good to trade for a team wanting to not spend money but reach cap floor likd Anaheim or Arizona
