Cap is King, a trade on paper might look terrible or one sided but it could mean you as a GM could sign some important future pieces already on your Roster, the only reason Leafs are considering trading any of their high price talent is because they didn't project the cap and haven't been able to fill the roles.

Yeah no. Its just an idiotic trade proposal that makes no sense. Matthews is a 27 yr old UFA in 1 year and Chicago is just starting a rebuild. Even ignoring the fact Bedard is projected to be as good or better, hes 18 which is much more valuable and sensible for a team just starting a rebuild. Some trade proposals are deserving of criticism. This is one.

To get a generational talent you need to give up a generation of talent. Crosby in 05, McDavid in 15, and Bedard in 23, so if I was Hawks GM unless teams come to me with min 8 years' worth of players (for example let's say every 1st round pick from 2023 to 2030 (ofc all of those picks need to be not protected); or prospects from previous years + future 1st round picks) I wouldn't even entertain the idea of trading Bedard. Is that a lot- yes. Do I care- no.

The reality is, these players are so good that either team could win a trade like that easily. Matthew is a good fit in Toronto, player entering his prime on a contending team, Bedard is a good fit in Chicago, young player that needs to develop on a rebuilding team, it just makes sense
