    So this was unexpected.

Avs might feel like Newhook didn’t show enough upside and wanted capital to either build more in the player pipeline or for a future trade

  2. coalsack

    Well that’s huge and unexpected!

I don’t hate it, I liked Newhook but getting a 1st and 2nd for him has to mean that something else is coming

whaaat, so now they have 2 late 1sts and an early 2nd round pick,
maybe they want to package these together to move up into the teens for the draft, or they just didn’t want to pay newy any money so they could bring in other people for the bottom 6. Either way this trade doesn’t happen unless something else is already in the works.

In Sakic and MacFarland we trust! sheesh

They must have a few kids they really really like in the 30-40 range. They have 3 picks in that range now.

Not.. too surprising tbh. I liked Newhook, but I think he needs another system to really flourish.

I don’t really hate this trade. I think Newhook had his shot last year and didn’t really take it. This looks like the Avs have something else in the works, but the draft is also deep and our prospect pool is depleted so either way is ok I guess

Now I don’t have to yell “two hands on your stick!” anymore every time he tries to corral the puck

I know he’s young but I think he was a little overrated among Avs fans. Got muscled off the puck so easily. Hopefully we’re flipping the picks in a bigger deal

Edit: god I hope this doesn’t mean we’re giving Compher $5million+

    Double edit: Sharangovich incoming?

Newhook was never going to be that 2C. You saw how they felt in the playoffs when he played an Average of 9 minutes. I trust something bigger is coming. Good luck to newhook!

Habs fan here to explain Gianni Fairbrother:

He’s a throw in and not worth even looking up.

The main assets are the picks.

Honestly hate seeing a roster player get moved for just picks. Makes me think this trade tree has only sprouted and the moves aren’t done yet

  12. NahdiraZidea

Fairbrother missed all last season with a knee injury, have to see if he can grt back to form with the Eagles.

  13. EdDantes21

I liked Newhook but the picks seem like pretty decent value

I can’t say I love giving up on our only reasonably young C to snag a couple of picks. I imagine this has to be setting up some other type of move where having more draft capital is required.

Don’t know anything about Fairbrother but he played 25 games for Laval and was a -14 in ’21-’22 so…yeah. In CMAC I trust. Fingers crossed it all works out. Gonna miss Newy though.

Kinda surprising, but I don’t hate it. I feel like he was at his ceiling here, so that feels like good value from another team that thinks he still has some untapped potential.

Newhook showed flashes but not enough for management to be sure he was gonna pan out.

Good move by Sakic and Co

  17. Typhoonman27

I am so confused by this. Maybe a minority opinion but I think the team gave up on Newy too early

  18. cmrn631

I had high hopes for Newhook but he turned into Jost 2.0, better to get the picks now while his value is still decent

  19. SergeantBBQ

I expected us to give Newhook one last shot at 3C next season, but ultimately I was more or less ready to move on from him.

I’ll be happy for him if he breaks out in montreal because I do like the guy, but I’m also glad to get some asset return for him while he still has potential

  20. jjmuti

Godspeed Newy I hope you find your feet on the Habs.

    I kinda saw this coming:

He was turning into Tyson Jost 2.0 on the Avs, they wanted some value while it was still there and perhsps to give him a change of scenery before it’s too late with his development.

Former first round pick given all the opportunity he could need and the flashes of brilliance still remained occasional. Caught in the no man’s land between the top and bottom six not really being a fit for either but paradoxically still definently an NHL lever player.

  21. Maess420

My guess is we are close to signing JT as a 3C since we just got Johansen. And then i would bet we are flipping one of the 1st’s and something for a top 6 winger.

  22. Hungry_Definition450

    McSakic flipping this for something.

  23. HotPissInTheMornin

These picks could be anything!! They could even be another Alex Newhook!
