A nice long parting gift from Chuck
I mean. I am glad they didn’t just GIVE him away for pennies. But it would have been nice to avoid that contract. I will choose to be optimistic
Always the deadline.
Yea I’ll go ahead and say we’re probably stuck with him through the first 4 years until the NTC expires. At least we’re in a rebuild so who really cares that his cap is so massive. On the other hand – wtf was chuck thinking.
chuck really gave travis sanheim 50 million dollars
They need to give him some healthy power play time this year. Play him to his strengths and see if they can get his value up. Then next year when more teams have cap space it might be a little easier. That NTC will be a pain in the ass but looks like this is the only option right now.
It would be nice to get that contract out of the way, but he is 27, never injured and has proven he can be a top 4 d-man when he’s at the top of his game. The AAV on his contract is pretty fair and he would get similar value if he hit the open market. No need to trade him away for peanuts. But good lord did Chuck make it hard for the person taking over after him…
I guess at least they didn’t Ghost Bear him?
I think Sanhiem finds his game again and we thank DB he didn’t move
With that contract is anyone even remotely shocked?
Yeah because he’s dooky
Oh well. We need a vet D man or two around for the rebuild anyway. Could do way worse then Sanhiem on the the 2nd pair at 6 mill. Cap will be 100 mill in a few seasons and we’re already set to have like 32m in space after next season. We’ll be fine.
I guess he’ll just have to rebuild his value
I, for one, am glad we didn’t sell low on Sanheim. I’m sure he’ll bounce back and play better.
Sanheim comes off as very immature in the little off-ice videos they put up on the Flyers website and YouTube page. If he ever grows up and gets serious about being the best he can be night in and night out, he can still be a good defenseman. I’m hoping the new development team can get to him.
Probably because literally everyone knows what our overall strategy is. Literally knows which players we are shopping and literally knows what we are asking for in return. Armed with this information it is very easy to exploit us or ignore us right now. I kind of feel like we are pulling the same shit Ron Francis did during the expansion draft where he made it very clear his intentions and asking price for deals. As a result it costed his team some potential value in extra draft picks, like McPhee was able to accomplish with a more clandestine approach with Vegas during its expansion draft.
I feel like this whole thing is a little too public and it actually kind of bothers me that I hear all the fucking details on twitter instead. For once, I’d rather not hear a peep until the deal is done.
Wonder if we could package him with Hart. Blasphemy I know but it just might work
We’re gonna have to hold onto him for a while, but 3-4 years from now when the cap has raised significantly he could be flipped for a solid return or be a decent player for us on a contract that doesn’t handcuff us.
Least of our problems is a defenseman entering his prime. Is his contract ass? Yup. But oh well. At least he’s formidable on the ice. Bad enough to tank
Hey, at least they didn’t offer him with a side of fries! Stay optimistic, buddy!
