In hindsight I wouldn’t do Lindros for Forsberg just by themselves.
FillyFan777
Remember their was another deal the NY Rangers made after Nordiques handshook and agreed to the trade with the Flyers. Reportedly that trade was: Tony Amonte, Alexei Kovalev, John Vanbiesbrouck, Doug Weight, three first-round picks (in 1993, 1994 and 1996) and $12 million but the league nixed it and said the Flyers trade was valid.
Context: Lindros is viewed as Conor Bedard but 6ft 4inch physical and tough as nails.
I’ve never seen anything like him. He was like a polar bear on skates.
Educational_Chef4220
Dont forget the Stanley Cup..
AustieFrostie
Bro Peter Forseberg as part of a package 😭😭😭
Anal_Probe68
The $15 million is the real reason this is 1 sided
United-Radio7672
Holy fuck what a fleecing, we’ll probably never see anything like that ever again.

Hextall is still a piece of shit

If Lindros had been able to cross the ice with his head up he would have been worth it. But he never looked up. I remember watching Scott Stevens absolutely demolish him. Crushing clean hit. Lindros had no idea it was coming.
Lindros was a beast, theres really no one in the league right now that could skate like Lindros could at 6’4, he was fucking fast, he had hands, he could hit, he could shoot, he had fucking hands. Not quite mcdavid hands, but seeing that enormous fucking monster in close you dont expect him to triple deke.
The closest comparable right now in the league is Tage Thompson, but its not really that close. Lindros was a different type of human. He was a giant with coordination. I heard his dick is so big it makes Zangief jealous.

Talk about a bargain deal, they practically traded for Stanley!

Screw Eric.

The Nordiques/Avalanche won that trade

Yikes

Literally the pebble that started the Avalanche.

Lindros was everything the flyers wanted him to be, when he was playing.
Problem is that he’s just one guy.
The trade tree looks even more awesome for Colorado in this deal
Designer_Cloud_1556
Talk about a bang for your buck! Stanley Cup, here we come!
OzzieNewYork
Ron Hextall plus 15m for Lindros
He lives a couple of blocks down from me. The guy got beefy with age!
Master-File-9866
Lindross was dominant but his career was short
Forsberg was dominant.
In hind sight you could argue those two player for each other is fair. Never mind all the other guys and the 15 mill. I mean 15 million is alot less in today’s nhl than it was then. But wow
GoRangers5
Both the Kings and Avs owe their first two cups because of a trade with the Flyers.

The only details that i ever recall from the entire Lindros saga is that he seemed like an asshole for refusing to play for Quebec if they drafted him, and that his dad was a POS too.
Strypes4686
In my opinion…. Lindros refusing to honor Quebec’s draft pick is the reason he never lifted the cup. Mike Ricci can be replaced with a player of equal talent and skill set and Forsberg isn’t that far ahead of Lindros at all.

The reason Colorado beats Detroit in 1996 is skill and grit which Lindros could match and maybe it prevents the concussion issues. In 1997 Lindros went to the finals and lost in 4 because Philly got knocked around by Detroit and the lack of physical play killed the Flyers.

If he signs with Quebec he lifts the cup in 1996 and maybe in 2001.
rcontinelli
Lindros was phenomenal but my god thats the worst trade ever. Gift wrapped a cup for the Avs

Steve Duchesne, damn. Takes me back.

They don’t do trades like this any more and likely never more. Damn salary cap!

Love Lindros. So much id do this deal over again. Wish he could have stayed healthy. But man was he great when he was.

What a fucking fleecing with hindsight being 20/20.

Always fun looking back at trades that turned out to be game changers

Let’s put it this way.
Since 1991 until even today Lindros would have been the #1 pick every year none of the #1 guys after him would have been chosen ahead of him if in the same draft.
And that’s with absolutely no disrespect to Crosby or Ovechkin.
epanek
Eric the red would be awesome a few years then Scott stevens caught him head down. Streaks of concussion. Over
Key_Introduction4893
Yeah, that worked out pretty well…Newly formed Avs fans like myself were incredibly fortunate.
Ghost_of_Nellie_Fox
I remember reading something within the last year or two talking about how Lindros definitely made the right decision to leave the profession when he did because of all the head injuries he had received (based on what we now know about brain injury) but that at the time he was called weak (or worse) for wanting to stop playing.

This trade won the Avs a cup in 3 years
Colorado did alright with that Forsberg guy.
The trade tree on this one is fantastic. It’s the $15M in cash that kills me.

Avs wouldn’t have gotten Roy without that pick becoming Thibault, so many ways this trade basically made their dynasty.
The Flyers also got Eric’s Dad in the deal
Wow I didn’t realize this was the trade! I was only 6! lindros was my hero growing up. I still have his rookie card. They over paid a shit load!
Flyers ended up getting Forsberg back so it all evened out…. 😂😂
Peter forsberg was a better player than Lindros
Chris Simon is a fucking legend.

If you got 40 mins to spare, [Steve Dangle does a breakdown of this trade](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mM7D2WTX2QA), its insane how much Que/Avs got in this trade
