Is it just me or is it actually kind of refreshing to not have the flames go out and blow our load on a July 1 overpay for once.
One thing I’m consistently seeing from Conroy is a genuine passion for the team and the city of Calgary. He wants what’s best for the org, isn’t afraid of making a tough decision (eg Toffoli trade) and still approaches everything with a high integrity professional, yet nice demeanour.
That’s all I really want in a GM. He’s been put in a tough spot and so far I think he has done a good job.

What I am seeing is Conroy letting the natural spots open up, Stetcher (who I liked but it is what it is) Lewis, Looch, Stone (most likely) out the door, Toffoli swapped for a good looking young guy and a pick that hopefully pans out, doesn’t open a ton of money but again it is what it is. He is not, thankfully, making rash moves on pending UFA’s, if we open the season with them fine with me. They are all world class players and people. If things go well maybe they change their tune and can be resigned. Doubtful on Hanifin as it appears he really wants to be in a US market, but Conroy not being baited in to letting them go for a song or an over the hill player is optimistic. He knows the value of these players and should get that value sooner or later of that we can all be hopeful. Honestly I’m happy with doing nothing on day 1, like it has been said, most teams are in the same position tight to the cap. We drafted, kicked the tires on some possibilities in the trade market, but if the price is not right you don’t buy. We have a dominant AHL team that will at the very least actually get to compete to play on the big club this year, which, if I remember correctly, is what 90% of the detractors were begging for last year.
