Gus’s agent seems to be pushing for a higher AAV after the signings of Hill and Korpisalo being around the 4mil mark. This will probably end up sending negotiations into arbitration.
Without knowing what they’re paying Gus, the Wild don’t have many options for free agency OR re-signing our own agents, namely Duhaime and Addison. Quote:
>Calen Addison shouldn’t cost too much, likely less than $1 million. But they’re still trying to come to terms with fellow restricted free agent Brandon Duhaime, and it has to be hard to know how much they can spend on him without knowing Gustavsson’s number. The Wild can’t afford to pay Duhaime too much more than $1.1 million or $1.2 million.
Long story short: Gus having the same agent as Jack Campbell is severely hindering this offseason.

So if he goes with a higher offer, Wild would get a 3rd? If I’m reading the offer sheet compensation calculator correctly?

If we can’t sign Gus I might actually cry

Just like when kaprizov held out and we couldn’t do anything that offseason either

Fuck it. I’ll do it for league minimum.

Goalies and players are two different breads. Like Oettinger and Shesterkin both signed for about 4.8 and 5.2 respectfully. Both had 2 elite seasons under their belts.
He should not get anything over 3.2… if he had 2 elite seasons it’s a different story. Sign the damn contract and get your bag in 2 years.

Feel like Gus might be playing himself here if it goes to a 1 year arbitration deal. He’s a good goalie but the roster and defense are not getting better. Even if he plays just as well it will be hard to put up the same numbers again. Plus it seems like goalies always have a lot of year to year variation in stats.

We should move on and just sign a FA goalie for cheap. Why?
It seems every goalie who comes to MN suddenly has a rejuvenated career. Gustavsson and Dubnyk among others. I don’t think they are great goalies, rather, they are playing behind a team/system that makes it easy on goalies.
You can tell me that Evason didn’t coach Dubnyk all you want, but in large, the whole “skaters playing accountable defense” hasn’t gone away.
Anyway, that’s why I think we should just move on if Gustavsson is going to play hardball. Go get what you think you can get on the open market, dude. And if the champion VGK have shown us anything, it’s that you can get by with the 26th best goalie in the league.

The last paragraph in the article says a lot.
“I think sometimes (agents) forget to look at our salary cap situation and how much money we actually have,” Guerin said.

Well it was a fun season having a good goalie.

I love it, the longer he waits this out the shittier our team will be this year. Always thought our team could tank with the help of a goaltender, but didn’t think it would go down this way. And I don’t think we’ll be bad enough for a top 5 pick, but a top 10 pick for the Wild is a about as tank as we’re ever going to get. This needs to be a player-led revolution, because you know the brass can’t lose $$$.
But regardless Dean is going to will the team into the playoffs with a great record then shit the bed with a small d-core and zero adjustments.

I wonder if he’s getting traded. It’d make a lot of sense if the market is any good at all (assuming Wallstedt is ready), his value should be pretty high.
