Interesting point on Perron being the only forward above the age of 30 while the back-end has several. I think this is a pattern we can see in successful teams, considering that point output really peaks between the ages of 25 and 30 while defenseman sometimes get better as they age (more years of experience and refinement of choice selection/hockey IQ).

No no some random Toronto fan on Reddit told me Holl is literally going to score 4 goals against his own team every night and that all these two year contracts will literally bankrupt us.

This the same guy who thought Tom Wilson was going to play for Team Canada at the last olympics🙄

Only issue was he didn’t discuss the lackluster goaltending performance, especially from sinking money into a contentious and mediocre Reimer.

It is the Detroit Red Wings, not the Chicken Little Wings. Take a few deep breaths and relax people. Stevie and Co. are not miracle workers. They inherited an awful system. The Wings were awful for a long time before the dynasty and then the great teams they had lost before they won. It takes time. No one wins cups because of free agents.

So much doom and gloom from a lot of people the past few weeks/months. I think many people have forgotten or didn’t realize just how bad of shape this team was in when Yzerman took over. Abdelkader’s buyout is still on the books for gods sake. Yzerman has finally turned over nearly the entire roster.

In terms of Holl and Compher, I can’t really get worked up over either. I admittedly don’t know a ton about Holl, but 3 years at $3.4 mil isn’t going to kill us. We are unlikely to really compete for a playoff spot next year so I’m looking at it more like a 2 year contract. I also think it’s a moveable contract should he meet expectations. Compher I would’ve preferred for a little less term and a little less money but he’s still young so I’m not going to get upset with it.

I get the impatience to some extent, but I want to be competitive for many years, not barely make the playoffs just so we can say we made it. We already did that the last few years of the streak.
