  1. I know it’s a big haul but I would still not say yes to that. Ritchie (or whoever they pick at 24 -even musty ) would probably not get into the top 6 of a talented Montreal canadiens team. Also, Kent Hughes didn’t know that San Jose would pick smith. Will smith in my opinion is way more valuable then what Nashville offered. Plus, Axel sandin pellika is an offensive defensmen like lane Hutson . Are you going to put two offensives Dmen on your first pairing??? That pairing would not play well together and would play terrible défense. That’s not how you win a Stanley cup.

  2. It seems they rolled the dice on Michkov being taken top 4 making Smith available and Reinbacher was the backup plan. According to what was said by Bobrov, size on defense is "what works and what wins" so Reinbacher was the target (other reasons too) and not Axel Sandin Pellikka (by trading the 5th pick). Reinbacher would not of been there at pick 15, RD's with skill and size are too valuable to pass on…not that he's that big but bigger (Reinbacher said himself putting on weight to fill his frame is a must).
That's my speculation on why according to what I've heard from Bobrov, Lapointe and Hughes.

  3. SCORING……………..remember that aspect of hockey? When do Habs get players who PUT PUCK IN NET? (( A> Kostitsyn )……..not so fun fact: last 50 goal scorer– S Richer in 1991; last 100 point man— Mats Naslund 19 bloody 86……..pfttt on D – men and world class goalies (( Price); Habs were 27th 2 thats TWO years in a row………………….WTH?

  4. Oh, more throwing Reinbacher under a bus already. Look, Montreal needs to just trade him already. Do the kid a favour. He is already being set up as a Habs fans whipping boy. If he struggles at all at the start of his career, he is going to get ripped apart more than he already is.

  5. Everyone seems to forget that they wanted Smith, but then had to take their second option in Reinbacher (Which btw is going to be our amazing Weber replacement down the line)

  6. Good thing they’re gonna have PLD marching through the door next year when he’s a UFA …. Oh!

  7. Yeah… If that was offered.. that took some serious Big Brass ones to reject. I think I would have takened the 2 picks and Askarov and LOL’d my way to pick 15… but that’s me..

  8. Reinbacher fits the reliable/physical top minute d men. When that guy is on the ice everybody can take more risk! He is better in every advanced stats that Moritz Seider was in his draft year.. He look as reliable as a swiss watch 👌 we still have Newhook, Roy , Slafkovsky, Farrell , kidney .. they all got insane minor production if they can do 35-40points/year we have great bottom 6 depth and we can expect at least 1-2 of them to become 50+pts .. Trust the process

  9. you are assuming Hughes somehow would have known who would have been available at 15 and 24. No mock drafts that I saw had Sandin-Pellikka dropping that far. So second guessing Hughes based on who was available after the draft is a little pretty bogus.

  10. Another thing to consider as well is that if you make that trade and get Askarov, you probably don’t waste three other picks on goalies in that draft. Freeing you up to take a few other swings at other positions. Interesting.

  11. Time will tell. Roughly 40% of first round draft picks make the NHL. You roll the dice and take your chance. Many fans wanted a forward at #5. Next season is supposed to be heavy with D prospects. For years during Bergevin's tenure, Montreal's strength was goaltending, and defense and the main weakness was at center and goal scoring. In the 2015 draft Montreal selected Noah Juulson in the first round at #26. In the second round at #35 overall was Sebastian Aho selected by Carolina.

  12. knowing what was available I would have teken this deal in a heart beat. Quentin Musty, Askarov and Sandin Pellikka sounds really good in my books.

  13. Addressing a big need in goaltending while still getting two firsts and instead taking not so much a big need on defense is definitely only a choice a team that took slaf #1 and played him in the nhl the immediate season after would make

  14. I would have taken that trade. You would have had some amazing picks and Ashkorov is going to be a top 5 league goalie. I'm sure of it

  15. Only way this makes any sense is that Nashville rescinded the offer when the fresh prince got taken 4th.

  16. The Habs wanted Reinbacher to play beside the small talented Hutson otherwise they probably would have taken the Preds load …

  17. STOP using “generational player” There has maybe been 8-10 in the HISTORY of the NHL! Rocket,Jean B, Mr. Hockey, Bobby Orr, The Great One, Super Mario, Sid, Ovi, Jagr and Bossy! There are others up for debate Stevie Y, Forsburg, Sakic but until McDavid and Matthews win a cup they are superstars NOT generational! Yeesh!

  18. It was a no brainer…you get an amazing goalie prospect and you get 2 more possible good player…they made a huge mistake…Imagine, Askarov and the RD (Pellika?) and another forward….no brainer…and I believe that Logan Mailloux will be an amazing RD also…big offensive and tough D….I just can’t believe they refused….even if Reinbacher becomes an excellent RD….

  19. Montreal Canadiens will be picking in the lottery again. This franchise is a joke. They should have taken the trade.

  20. If the Habs were dead set on a RHD, they should have taken that deal and taken ASP at 15, then Gulyayev at 24. Sure ASP is not Reinbacher, but you get Gulyayev too, as well as Askarov. Sounded good to me.

  21. Interesting video! I don't follow the "silly season" (trade talks) much, but this deal sounds intriguing. Overall, Reinbacher was listed as the #11 overall prospect. Wouldn't it have been funny if the Habs made the deal before the draft and Reinbacher would have been available at #15? Reinbacher has received a lot of hassle for the nerve of being selected at #5, so I really hope he has a great Habs' career.
