  1. Man the J.T contract is rough imo. Way too much for him, at times in Colorado he wasn’t even worth 3.5M let alone 5.1×5. The Holl contract might be over hated a little but I don’t like it either. Ghost is weird (idk why Detroit wanted him). All the other moves are amazing

  2. Sprong is gonna do great for you guys, he was a low key Kraken favorite. We’ll miss him.

  3. Alot of people are upset about term and aav for both holl and compher. I see the argument there and understand the concern. But personally I don't see the RedWings being a in a position where they will have serious salary cap problems in 5 years. All the "bad" contracts like Chariot holl compher and copp will be off the book in 5 years time. Just putting bodies out there that are talented are what's important right now, if a young player makes the lineup that'd a better problem to have

  4. I don't have a real issue with any of the individual guys he signed. I just don't like that this basically pushes every single prospect down the depth chart. We're at a point in the rebuild where we have so many promising prospects that we should try to find out what we have in them ASAP. Why try to become a playoff team without the guys you need to take you from just a playoff team to a real contender?

We can probably put together some decent lines but I still wish we could have gotten a guy with a lot more firepower. We're banking on a lot of these guys keeping up or improving on their numbers from last year. We already have 14 forwards, I kinda hope there's a trade coming to give us that extra punch and MAYBE open up a spot for Kasper, Mazur, or Edvinsson.

  5. For everyone saying Yzerman is overrated, it's tough to build a team without a bona-fide superstar. Larkin is our best player, followed by Seider. We're still suffering from the Holland mess and with bad luck in the draft lottery he is pushing to make us more competitive and i think every year we've made steps. Now we just need to wait for development and the right moves for the big fish at the right time.

  6. I honestly would be surprised if this year it’s copp and compher down the middle with kasper playing wing just to get adjusted to the nhl, then eventually sliding in as 2c and pushing compher down to 3rd line. I think potentially as soon as next year the 3rd line could look like compher, copp, and ras which gives a lot of flexibility while maybe the 2nd line would be kasper, berggren and maybe mazur

  7. I have watch alot of JT love him and his play style but I don't think he'll live up to that personally maybe 3.5-4

  8. They got Larry Murphy from Toronto for nothing and won two cups with him. Give Holl a shot.

  9. chairot holl ew Lol its not the worst contract in the league its just not good but we have seen worse for compher its a ok contract its just a fine contract its what he deserves

  10. Yzerman clearly wants the team to start competing for playoff spots. And I think they should be in the race longer this time, but ultimately I think they most likely miss out.

  11. I think a big thing to keep in mind is the cap situation. The Wings have the luxury of landing these free agents over other teams because they can offer better contracts. If this were a different, cash-strapped team these signings would certainly read differently.

  12. I can't say I'm ecstatic about the free agency period, but I also can't say I'm surprised.

There's some overpayments here, clearly, and that's not necessarily a bad thing. I think we gave Holl a year too long, but also not that bad. He's also a much better D-man than people give him credit for, as he's a huge upgrade over both Oesterle and Hagg by himself. Compher got a bit too much money, but I feel like Killorn's deal threw the curve on that one.

It's important to consider Stevie's statement during the draft about where he feels we are, and for me at least, it was a reset of where I felt we were. I thought maybe we would push to compete for a playoff spot, but no… we're still a little ways out. His master plan is to restore the dynasty. So, with that in mind, I'm cool with our moves personally. I don't think Holl was a bad signing like a lot of folks seem to, for no other reason than the fact he was misused in Toronto and their fans used him as a whipping boy. Our roster now is better than it was last year, no matter how you slice it. It just falls short of the playoffs expectation too many of us had.

TL;DR: I'm not happy, but I'm not upset either. We're better now, and I think our record will reflect that.

  13. The thing the Wings needed to improve the most was being difficult to play against. Compher and Kostin are that. Curious what you think Holl is worth? These guys (Chariot, Maata, Holl) are just bridge players to Edvinson, Wallinder, etc…I'm just thrilled the Wings have their top D pair squared away

  14. Watch Holl score the goal for the Red Wings that effectively ends the Leafs season this upcoming year. That’s the kind of snakebite I could imagine happening to the Leafs with a player like this. I’m honestly rooting for that exact scenario to play out. 😂

  15. Dude! Did you get rid of that looping elevator music? I'm a Wings fan that used to watch your videos, but I had to stop because that awful musak was waterboarding my brain. That little loop had the tenacity of Tomas Holmstrom when it parked itself in the crease of my ear drums. It was weaponized, auditory despair. I'll be watching again, now that it's safe.

P.S. I hope that, if the "music" is only taking a brief hiatus to defend itself at The Hague or something, I didn't hurt your feelings. I always liked the actual content. All the best, and never forget the Nyquist Explosion.

edit The musak remains. My headphones were off and I missed it.

  16. Very much agree on this analysis. Like the depth these signings bring, but not the term or contracts to Compher, especially Holl. Holl is this years Chiarot–real head shakers by what steve has done here

  17. Holl is fine. If you play him third pairing, he’s okay. He is slow with his decision-making and not great offensively but he can play PK1 and isn’t afraid to block shots. A bit overpaid, comparatively, but overall not a disaster of a signing by any means.

  18. Wings have one good player and hes a defenceman. Their top line is a shitty 2nd line on a playoff team. They are once again a bottom 10 team

  19. Still don’t see a superstar forward, I’d still say no playoffs unless a bunch of guys over preform

  20. Holl can be a decent run of the mill defender, and some games he'll block a shot late or make a good-ish play and you'll catch yourself thinking "this guy isn't so bad, why all the hate" then he'll follow it up with an abysmal pizza up the middle or just amateur play for the next week. That's when you realize where the hate comes from

  21. I'm not a fan of the 1 year deals, other than that I like the signings. Defense should be measurably better, top 3 centers are looking good, and I expect Copp to bounce back a year removed from the abdominal surgery.

  22. I think we’re a cheap knockoff version of the Kraken, due to a weak FA market.
BUF/OTT seem more likely to push for a playoff berth over DET..

We now have more potential depth to move @ trade deadline, and bring up a few youngin’s to gain experience at the end of the season.. 🤷‍♂️

  23. As a leaf fan, that Holl contract is horrible😂he was so bad in the playoffs, he almost lost us the tampa series single handily. I’ve never seen a NHL player so out of position and so easy to skate around

  24. Holl isn't so bad IF he doesn't have the puck more than 3 seconds in his own zone or the neutral zone. Plus there's a chance Holl & Chiarot might pair up for some games. Good luck with that 🙏

  25. He needs to get back to cheating the Salary cap to be successful.
Detroit is VERY similar to the Habs they lack quality forwards.Their defense just like MTL is fine but you need to score and keeping the puck in the offensive zone makes for easier defense.

  26. IMO the vast majority of people have no clue about goalies.
Reimer for example if on NJ or COLO would put up great numbers put him on a bad team and yeah bad numbers.Ullmark and Swayman on the record setting Bruins were 1 and 3 but nobody with a sane mind would consider either one a 8-10 mil goalie.Teams that over pay for goalies will not win the cup…..unless they cheat the cap like pretty much every recent cup winner.
"NHL caliber forwards?"says who?Just because a player is in the NHL doesn't mean he should be there.Yamamoto has NEVER been a scorer unless he plays with McDavid.
Yes Klostim is ok but not an elite IMPACT player he is a third line player.

  27. Holl signing is questionable.
    That's a lot of money for a 3rd pairing D.

  28. Rebuilds always got the fans in GM mode lolol i think the Red Wings have always been a winning organization and they’ll be just fine. It sucks to lose but you have to sacrifice a couple years of competitive hockey to get back into a position to compete again. A good rebuild can take 6-7 years and it’s unbearable when its your team but it 100% beats mediocrity. Look at the canucks. Cant win, cant lose enough either always in the middle just in limbo. Sorry canucks fans😢

  29. Even if the Red Wings make the playoffs, best case scenario is probably just a squeak in via a wild card spot, of which I don't think the fanbase is going to be jumping up and down over

  30. Eerily quiet about DeBrindincat . Nobody biting at 8 years. 5 years maybe an option. I'd like 3 years.

  31. I can understand almost all of the signings but but i dont like the cost of holl and compher. I hated the copp and chiarot signings last year now infeel we have close to 20m in bad contracts.

I can understand them though cause now it means the team is now fully loaded with nhl talent and if the young guys can push and take a spot then its for the better.

I think it will actually be a 1/2 of lyon and husso. Reimer might be brought for resting the other two completely on off nights or to help mentor cossa if he makes GR.

  32. The NHL is a copy cat league. This season, we're going to see several teams attempt to play the style of play that Florida and Vegas played with forechecking, backchecking, hell, checking everywhere. And since Vegas won, we'll see teams trying to get as large on D as possible. That, to me, explains the Holl contract. He's 6'3" 200 lbs… about the Vegas average from last season.
