Hi Trevor I’m excited about soucy too this season shall be interesting depends on how the Canucks start the season too I understand your concern too though it’s a situation u never know what’s going to happen oh And soucy is going to be a dad to twin girls in September since he has family in Alberta family will be able to help out when necessary so that may have factored in his decision too
Soucy will be a beast under tocc… he is more of a shut down guy who is gonna allow hronek to step up into the play when available… For me Soucy was our best signing besides hirose… plus he won’t be a pylon on the pk like myers is… all that said we needed a 3rd line center and 2 top 4d, we got a 4c and two bottom 6d but hey it’s a step in the right direction at least and if Winnipeg and Calgary implode we should be in a dog fight for final central wildcard… And shows petey we going in right direction to convince him to resign hopefully… Only time will tell… go nux go….
I am not to worried about Soucy. The risk is low. I also believe this is a move to have more options on the blue until the cap situation gets better.
I think the whole D core will be well coached this term under Foote and Gonchar. I think Myres Will have a good year… If he is able to learn. Old dogs like Shen got it figured out after a rough patch. There are guys in the system now with god given tools that just have to be sharpened up.
There's a part of me that wonders whether our defensive situation was so dire that any option would be considered an upgrade. There's something inherently wrong with this thinking as things could possibly get worse if Soucy turns out to be Tyler Myers 2.0, and we are stuck with the 2 of them on our blueline. How's that for a kick in the pants? I'm not super familiar with Soucy as I've only seen him play a handful of times against the Canucks, but he didn't look like a defensive liability, and seems fairly steady and reliable. As long as he continues to hit, block shots, and clear the front of the net, then he's got to be an upgrade on Myers. If he's really bad, at least we should see him play a few games in a Canucks uniform before we make any judgement on his play. Thanks for posting, Trev!
Soucy is not being paid 6 million dollars. He will never be the next Tyler Myers. If Myers only cost 3 million and was not expected to carry a pairing opinions of him would be better than they are. Soucy will not be relied on to carry a pairing. Not a great comparison other than size.

i think ur concerns are valid trev. the canucks pro scouting have had a constant habit of bringing in mediocre 5/6 defenseman and miscasting them into top 4… myers, sbisa, poolman, schmidt, bear, dermott, stillman, gudbranson..AND OEL. they dont deserve the benefit of the doubt. and im also wait and see on Hronek. hes coming off of injury and no slam dunk either.
I wish they had more money to go get RHD dumba on the cheap. Still waiting for comtois to sign as well. Need another big body forward who can move up and down the line up. He is a tocchet type of player as well.
I’d take soucy over myers any day. Also soucy is getting paid half the wage as myers and half myers original term.
i think soucy was the best available d man that wopuldn't eat up all the cap space. blueger and cole aren't going to get them to the promise land this year.
3rd pairing guy. If asked to do more makes too many mistakes. Minutes went down in playoffs. Salary is ok
Trev JT is also a hot head so you are going to have two of those on the team. but as long as he comes in and fits well into the culture and helps the team make a strong push for the post season then I'm good with this signing. Since Myers is being moved at some point.
If Soucy can skate he would already be better than Myers
it looks like soucy will be playing on the 2nd pair with hronek. hronek will be the offensive one there. soucy's job will strictly be to be strong defensively. if he can do that, he'll be fine.
same with cole with hughes. myers is good on the 3rd pairing. he gets in trouble when they move him up the pecking order. lo ve to see you do one on who you think will man the pk units. keep them coming lad.
If Soucy plays well, he might inspire Myers to copy his game
Feels like a trade is coming for one of Myers, Pearson or Beauvillier. All on expiring contracts and can be retained to a palatable cap hit. They’re just over the cap at the moment so they need to find some level of flexibility, even if it’s small.
