  1. Trade marner and nylander already. We’ve seen enough. The nylander contract negotiations shouldn’t even come up again period. Send a message and then Mitch next and then sign Auston or trade em. Let’s make a real hockey team here . Sick of the hot dog show

  2. If Mathews buys in , meaning 13 x 3 or less. Then u can get nylander 8.5 X 2 . That would be for the Team !

  3. Auston Mathews will be Toronto's first priority to get him signed two players have to go William Nylander and Matt Mury that's the bottom line

  4. 1:54 / 15:25

    Intro

Leafs Fans DO NOT Want to Hear THIS! ? I certainly do. Nylander is a terrific offensive (perimeter) player who is completely disinterested in playing defense. I would gladly trade him for a player or two with less skill but more snot. Because you know Nylander is absolutely bent on wringing every last dollar out of management on his next contract. Time to sell high.

  5. In a cap world 10M in cap space that otherwise would have been allocated for Willy…is not nothing. It's two players of 5M value. I agree that Matthews' contract is the one to get done first. And Treliving can't get taken to the woodshed like Dubas did, but to do that the Leafs have to be willing to walk away. I like the Willy as an own rental scenario…guys on expiring contracts looking to cash in usually have their best years.

  6. I’ve said this before I’ll say it again the Leafs Executive screwed this up the 1st time they had those 3 players coming off their ELC contracts where you should of signed all 3 to 7 or 8 years deal,,, now they are basically at their mercy ,,, I get Nylander why am I taking less , when Mathews and Mariner will get even more in their next co tracts, I’m already behind them if I take less then I’ll be even further behind,,, I’ve said it before you need to trade Marner , my take , and get a top 2 D plus another young forward , then sign the other 2 now they can’t keep going back and forth,,, as much as the leafs are adding that D core is not even close to being good enough to win a cup

  7. Matthews choked in the playoffs. Willy once again proved himself to be a clutch performer. You want a cup, keep Nylander!

  8. Matthews is a great player, but he isnt the whole team.

And being the "ace" player in the NHLs highest grossing franchise gets him enough side work.

Maybe make room for the other guys around you who arent making those side hustles. And win a cup sometime this existence.

  9. love willy but you can say goodbye if you're only looking for money… I say offer 9 and if he scoffs you trade his ass

  10. Nylander was born in Calgary… let him return. God knows, of the 4, he's the one to keep. But not because of extortion. The only # that matters in any of these negotiations is 0: zero appearances in the final 4 since '96 (I think, can't remember that long ago!)… so let them go.

  11. Nylander deserves 9.5m. He had a very good cap friendly contract. The Leafs over paid for Matthews and Marner. There is no way Nylander deserves 4m less than Marner.

  12. Nylander is useless in the very physical playoffs and he will never win the Stanley Cup.

  13. Willy is going out … there is no god dam way brad will ever give him 10 or even 9 mill. I would rather resign domi/Bertuzzi and trade willy to get a top 2 d man and sign him to 9 mill instead of keeping this guy….

  14. Nylander is worth 8.5 and Mathew’s 9.5. Mathew’s ended the season with 85 points. Trade them both. Bertuzzi and Domi will be bigger fan favs than the soft four.

  15. neither of the core four should get any raise in money untill they proven them self fully in the playoff. untill then just no.

  16. It’s crucial to keep Nielander for the playoffs 💯 He’s basically the only Core who has stepped it up in the playoffs, so winning out conference massively depends on Willy staying. He’ll get signed lol

  17. Nylander wants 10 m and the Leafs are willing to pay him 8. For me Nylander is gone. I don't see how they can make it work. Personally I look at points per game in the playoffs. Based on that and the fact he is not really willing to keep his wages "low" to have a winning chance at a cup and he wants the paycheck more than winning, that would be enough for me to trade him. We need to get players that want to play in Toronto and want to win. In my opinion any player who wants that kind of money does not want to win. 6 million each for the core 4 is still a ton of money but then they would have a shot at the cup.

  18. The real problem is that the NHL choses owner profit over on ice quality, consistency, and the fans. Name me another business where the owners take over 50% of the revenues of the enterprise. Most businesses shell out over 70% to their employee's. Owners should raise the cap to 95 million tomorrow. Even owners that lose money don't bat an eye at the loses. They get into the game for the prestige, their egos, and the tax write offs. We'd keep fan favorites like Connor Brown, Luke Shen, Zach Hyman, Nazim Kadre. Instead GM's go insane trying to put together a consistent product on the ice and fans suffer. Willy is a better player than Phil Kessel and Kessel got 8.5 long term years ago. I'd say that justifies Willy at 10 long term today, but Tribbles bag is empty while MLS counts their piles of gold coins.

  19. I know of no other player on the leafs better than Nylander at gaining the zone. This will be a big loss if he walks. Sign him to an extension and deal with the Marner contract when it comes.

  20. Which is why YOU are not the Leaf's GM. You tell Matthews, Marner and Nylander to meet and work out between them what the deal is; then you trade the one who was unwilling to move.

  21. I don’t understand, first of all, this is on the internet, I imagine what Marner, or Matthews are say, second if you don’t want to take less, fine but then ask to be traded, or leave for free agency. This situation could cost them in the locker room.

  22. It says alot that AM,MM and WN have not sat down and worked this out for the chance to win a CUP.smh🙏🏽

  23. You won’t get fair value on a Nylander trade, keep him and let him walk next year

  24. The problem is, Matthews taking less would still be a raise over his current 11.64m. At that point Nylander will most likely agree to 9 or 9.5 because Tavares is getting 11. The only real solution would be to trade Nylander. There is another solution, but it's quite tricky and going to require a lot of trust on Nylander's part. The solution could be to convince him to sign a 1-year extension with a full no move clause. Then as his extension expires with Tavares' contract, give him the raise he wants then with term. As much as I love him though, I just don't see him being any more than an 8million dollar player. The problem is they dished out money to Matthews, Marner and Tavares and expect anyone else to take a discount.

I have this nagging feeling that due to cap limits, the Leafs are not going to be a competitor until Matthews, Marner and Nylander are off the team. They overpaid on the stars and naturally every player who has a good season will compare their contract to those 3 (as they should). Matthews was given his contract coming off 1 40 goal season and a career high of 73 points. Nylander is now coming off a 40 goal season and a career high of 87 points. Marner got his big contract coming off a career high of 26 goals and 94 points. Even though Marner had 21 more points than Matthews, Matthews got paid more because he scores goals.

How is Nylander supposed to look at the fact that he scores more goals than Marner, has more points than Matthews had when he got his payday, is arguably the most consistent player in the playoffs and all this while playing mostly on a 2nd line averaging 2.5min less than Marner and Matthews. It's a really tough situation for the Leafs and though it looks like we need to move on from Nylander, I don't blame him a single bit. Whoever is responsible for paying Matthews and Marner the amount they did, is to blame. It's going to keep repeating over and over again. Let's say Knies turns out to be a 40 goal 85 point player, whose contracts do you think he is going to compare himself to?
