John Gibson voudrait un échange… Les diables devraient-ils le poursuivre ? ; L’avenir d’Alexandre Holtz

HOWEVER, NOW IS THE TIME I AM GOING TO GET ON MY SOAP BOX…..PAT MYSELF ON THE BACK. WHY? SO HERE WE ARE. A YEAR LATER…..SINCE 2019….2020…I WAS SCREAMING…."WE MUST MUST DRAFT YAROSLAV ASKAROV" (MOST DID NOT KNOW HIM BUT MANY STILL WANTED TO TRASH HIM SND TRASH TALK ME. "WE DON'T NEED HIM…..WE HAVE BLACKIE!"…WHERE ARE ALLL OF YOU NOW???? ALL ASKAROV HAS DONE IS OUT SAROS…..JUSSE SAROS IN THE TRADE BLOCK A YEAR EARLY. NAHHH WE DON'T NEED A GOALIE LIKE THAT….. ALL WE HAVE ARE QUESTION MARKS IN NET….I LIKE AKIRA BUT HE IS NO ASKAROV. ….WE FUCKED THAT PICK SO BAD. IF YOU RATHER HAVE THAT COWARD HOLTZ OVER ADKAROV….YOU ARE A LIAR TO YOURSELF AND THE MIRROR

  2. we just gotta give holtz some time. put him to work. put him on a line and keep him there until he evolves into the 1st round pick he was or shows hes a bust

  3. Holtz for DeBrincat with Ottawa retaining salary. Solves Ottawa’s big headache and Devs can slot DeBricat onto third line with Palat giving them arguably the best top 9 in the league

  4. People need to calm down with this whole "move on from Vancek" demand. They seem to forget that VV is the ONLY other goalie besides Brodeur to have a 30+ win season in NJ, he was the primary goalie to backstop them to a franchise record winning season. Where he hit a wall was in the playoffs where he had next to zero experience, just like the majority of the Devils roster. He had awful nights getting lit up, as did the Devils defense. As a whole, NJ had awful games and great games in the playoffs. Elite goalies have had brutal playoff flops, as well. It happens. If the Devils defensive zone play steps up in the playoffs to help the goalies out more, the goals against will drop and not be as much of a worry. Experience and veteran leadership will all play a huge part in helping in that matter.

TL/DR: The Devils goaltending is fine as is. Going out after a mediocre goalie like Gibson is not the way to go.

  5. I really don't see a reason to do another big splash here. Goaltending situation is a big questionmark for the Devils, absolutely, but look at the contracts and their performance as a duo.
Vanecek had a good regular season, great start, and he proved he can bring the team to the playoffs. For 3mil cap hit. That's GOOD.
Akira proved he can be effective during the playoffs, can play 2nd during the season. For 850k. That's GOOD.
We need to deal with the situation, but there is no pressure to do it now. Akira is expiring RFA next season, and we will have an entire year to decide what to do. Imagine we trade Vanecek and some big future for 1 year of Connor Hellebuyck or Gibson (4 more years aat 6.4mil), and then Akira makes that next step, is great during reg season nd the playoffs, and now you have to sign him big, 4-5 mil long term that you don't have.
Either you lose Hellebuyck in free agency (so you got 1 year for all those futures), or sign him and lose Akira to trade, and end up with an aging expensive goaltender. In case of Gibson, you are in an even worse situation, because he is not expiring until 27-28.
Remember, this season the plan was Blackwood. Vanecek was suppsed to be 2nd. he stepped up during the season.
Akira was supposed to be Uttica and 3rd in case of injury. He steped up to that, AND then stepped up even more during the playoffs.
By getting somebody new you are actively hurting yourself in a good situation because you can't wait 1 year and see. next year the situation will be the same, and if neither Vitek nor Akira can make another step, than we can try to look for another goalie.

I just don't like this idea that because one of our goaltenders pretty much folded when defense ahead of him folded as well, we need to break up a good thing we have. When player stepping up within your organization, I don't think you should discourage that at THIS stage of the team. We just started competeing.

  6. I think the expectations on Holtz need to be tempered. If we expect him to be a top 6 or even a top 9 forward…..then we are going to be sorely disappointed.
Look at McLeod. 1st rounder (top 15 if I remember correctly). It took him a lonnnnnnng time to find his game. Which is a great fourth liner.
Maybe Holtz can’t live up to that hype. Maybe he just needs to find a game that suits him for our team. Maybe he’s that fourth line winger with McLeod and Bastian. Hey, if he only plays 9-10 mins a game but can pot a goal throughout the game…..then that’s the type of game he plays

My two cents. Not worth much. Call me an idiot or a genius or anything in between. But that’s why I’m an amateur armchair GM 😂
