Best Canucks coach this century. Second best coach all time

Something that stood out to me with the AV/Gillis era was how clearly defined everyones roles were on that team.

You had the Malhotra/Hansen line taking all the left side d-zone draws. The Kesler/Higgins line taking all the right side d-zone draws. Those lines typically lined up with Hamhuis/Bieksa and got matchup duty/d-zone starts/pk minutes.

And that enabled AV to put Daniel/Henrik/Burr/Edler/Ehrhoff in the most dangerous/offensive minutes possible.

You knew exactly which line guys played on, what their role was… and everybody took ownership of that role.

Arguably the best coach the Canucks have had in their history so far.

Genuinely seemed like a good dude. I was rooting for him even when he was coaching the Rangers to the final that one time.

  5. Love AV all the best to him in retirement

Not sure if he’s planning to go into broadcasting. Maybe become a CBC analyst with Bieksa. That will be fun!

He coached one of the most dominant regular season teams of all time in 2011
