1. I would rather have Horvat at 8.5 than Tyler Myers @6…LoL
Watch after a whole training camp how Horvat does next year.

  2. The contract was brutal from day one. That’s how contracts works and he ‘deserves’ it.

But what Bo is at his heart is an excellent 2nd line center, who can’t drive offense, but can finish.

Bo needs playmakers to be successful. Guys like Quinn Hughes, Elias pettersson, JT Miller.

If you’re expecting Bo to a first line offensive driver every game, that’s just not him.

But what the man is, is a leader. Grade A, Captain material, lockeroom, playoff performer, ALL the intangibles.

  3. Bo is…
    – a great finisher
    – a killer on the face off circle
    – a respectable skater (waaay better than his early days)
    – a boring person

    Bo is NOT
    – a playmaker
    – a defensive center
    – a physical gritty player
    – emotional/passionate. Could be a pro or a con depending on how you look.

Is that worth 8.5m a year? Islanders seem to think so.

  4. I mean they really didn't pay him like a 40 goal guy. They paid him like what he is. A 20-30 goal 55-70 point guy. Who's great at faceoffs who always has more takeaways than giveaways. And who is about a 3/4 hit and block per game guy. He's a tier 2 two way player. He's a poor mans Patrice Bergeron. And if Bergeron was paid the proper amount during his prime he would have made probably 10m per season. Horvat making 8.5 several years later is about right.

  5. The Isles bought high on a guy who may very well never produce like he did before the trade.

I doubt that it concerns them too much, since their main problem currently is an inability to get pucks past Antti Raanta, of all people.

  6. This shows just how clueless you guys are of other markets and nothing but talking out your ass. He got 8.5M because he earned the price when leaving Van. If you check the last 4 seasons Horvats production has increased each season based on games played and would have probably been over 50 goals this season had he stayed.

Everyone knows the Islanders play the most boring style out of the 32 teams and their offense is stale, was the worst place for him to go. Put him on a team with actual skill and see what happens.

  7. RELAX! he played 32 games with NYI. check back april 2024, that's when they'll know his worth with NYI is.

  8. I think there's a few huge things that are missed here, and I get it – the Islanders are not a Canadian team:

    1) Barzal was OUT for those 30+ games where Horvat only had 7 goals.
    2) Barzal is still working his way back to being completely healthy in the fricking playoffs, of course things are going to be out of whack
    3) The Islanders got a bit hosed these last 2 playoffs games, and for what its worth they were the BETTER team in game 2 despite the 0-6 in powerplays
    4) Is Horvat worth 8.5mil? Probably not – but also, who knows? Not every player jumps on to a new team and performs ridiculously like they were before. Look at Timo Meier, he's not lighting it up for the Devils at all and analytically he actually projects as a high end first line player (unlike Horvat)
    5) The majority of deals like these age poorly, this isn't some crazy hot take. If Horvat puts up 30 goals each season for the next 3 years as far as I'm concerned its a fair deal. And that is very, very possible when you're playing with Barzal at 5v5 and on the PP where he was only 2nd to McDavid this year in primary assist shots generated/60.

  9. Horvat fits right in with the islanders. Slow skilled guy on almost the back 9 of his career

  10. Next year should reveal exactly how good or bad the trade was for both VAN & NYI

  11. I'm a Canucks fan and I've been saying since this contract talk started this year that horvat is 40-50 point on average player. He's been in the league almost 10 years now, he's reached his peak. I'm glad he's gone from the Canucks and sad for Islander fans when they see his true point production.

Sure he's good on faceoffs, PK, shut down guy, etc but not worth his contract.

  12. small sample, but so far horvat has 0 points and hovering around 50% on faceoffs this playoffs

  13. I would have loved Horvat at somewhere in the 5-6.5 range. At the contract that he wanted and got, im happy that we didnt have him. Not too say we'll spend the equivalent cap space better, but theres atleast the opportunity for us too as opposed to the situation we'd have been in otherwise.

  14. I don't think the Isles are paying Horvat $8.5milx8yrs to play a 'good two-way game' but only produce half a point per game. If you want that for a few years, you go out and sign Jonathan Toews for maybe$2-3mil…

  15. Bo was never a big goal scorer in Vancouver. This year was an anomaly. Hes a clutch face off guy and good all around player. I liked Horvat in Van but his time there ran its course and 8 mil a year is too much for Vancouver.

  16. The Isles need to use him in the right situation, and that is away from Barzal. For some frustrating reason, he refuses to shoot first, and resists sending the puck to the front of the net to let a guy like Lee or Bo tip it in. Just look how far Lee's tip and dirty goals dropped off once he lined up with Barzal.
All you have to do is look at how Bo scored all the goals with Canucks to see that he got them the same way Lee USED to. The Barzal / Horvat pairing will never work. Barzal is very talented, but he is a frustrating SOB when it comes to how rigid he is about how goals are scored. The Isles should never have dumped Eberle, because he gave Barzal what he craves….pretty goals.
Both Lee and Bo need to be lined up with Nelson. Being on their off side wouldn't matter much to either. They would create havoc in front of the net, and Nelson has no problem shooting for the tip or just dumping it to the blue paint for a messy goal. Let Pageau center the 2nd line and Barzal center the 3rd until he learns to win faceoffs and shoots the puck more.

  17. Y’all are actually dense and didn’t watch this guy on the island since day one. Him and Barzal were producing every single game when put together until Barzal got hurt. You look at the playoffs when Barzal came back for game 1. It’s quite hard to go from 0 to 100 after being out for 20 games. Also, Horvat didn’t score 31 goals by himself in Vancouver. Going from playing with Elias Peterson to anders lee and Hudson Fasching is a big difference. Y’all keep making it sound like he did that by himself. Keep hating and get your facts straight by watching a few games. Bo fits the islanders perfectly, he’s defensively responsible, wins face offs, and is a bull in the corners. A little too much money for the long run. But, the guy will be scoring 75 points or more every season along with Barzal and Brock Nelson. And from an islanders standpoint, I think that’ll be just fine.
