  1. They got worse, way worse.
    1) They changed too many players on too many lines. Chemistry takes time, a lot of it.
Sometimes you're very lucky with the one guy fitting in immediatey (Noel Acciari kinda did that last year) but so many changes, not a chance it will click all across imediately. NOT A CHANCE.
    2) They lost too many good defensive assets. Decent defense is what gets your offensive guys more chances to do their magic. Good defense gets you in the playoffs, ease you past a round or two. Defense is the basis on which proper efficient offense can be build upon, never works the other way round.
    3) They replaced ALL their guys with strong defense abilities with guys with better offensive upside but who can't defend shit. I mean Schenn for Klingberg ? Seriously …
    4) The Nylander situation… Cancer. You can't have your very best player grow this frustrated (and maybe leave in the end) and expect for things to settle without ripples. Compare to what teams like the CH are building or what the Canes have been cooking, and you clearly see the Toronto Maple recipe for a disaster syrup. a sour one to swallow.

  2. Let us not forget they’re 8mil over (technically like 3 mil once LTIR kicks in) and still haven’t signed Samsonov aswell who can probably demand like 3-5mil which will put them back to 6-8mil over the cap 🙂

  3. Leafs got better offensively and worse defensively. I think if you can trade a guy like Nylander for a top 4 shutdown D man and a good 2nd line RW then the Leafs will be way more balanced.

  4. I have the forward lines being

    Bertuzzi-Matthews-Marner
    Robertson-JT-Nylander
    Knies-Domi-Jarnkrok
    McMann-Kampf-Lafferty
    Holmberg, Reaves

  5. Besides the good start oh Reilly didn’t do all that much. He choked with the rest of the team in the second round

  6. The team may get fewer regular season points but I think they'll have better chances in the playoffs. Especially if McCabe looks more comfortable and Lafferty is actually given PK time.

  7. One thing to consider when looking at those lines, Toronto still needs to move about $8 million in cap space to make it to the cap ceiling. I still think Nylander and Murray are going to be moved as cap sacrifices, it's just on them to figure out how that'll work. They also still haven't signed Samsonov, meaning potentially more cap needs to be moved.

  8. Worse of course, remember how bad your pk was? Now imagine a weaker defence and about 600 more pim's to try and kill with one of the worst pk's in the league? How does no leafblower understand anything about hockey? 😂 you traded players for goons who run at people for no reason and hurt your team with many many penalties.

  9. Devil's fan here. I live in Ontario so most of the people I know are leaf fans, and I swear they act like "this is the year", yet again.

Unbiasedly, they've gotten a little better. But not by much and if you argued that they're roughly the same, I wouldn't put up much of a fight.

For me, again, it'll come down to the core. Domi and Bertuzzi aren't going to win you the cup alone. So not much different from last year.

But yeah, they've gotten better, but just a bit

  10. As a Leaf fans, listing ROR, Schenn and Acciari stings, but the additions out way the subtractions. I loved Bertuzzi in Detroit, Klingberg can add some depth, that the Leafs 2nd PP needs. Domi is a solid signing, good 3rd line C or 2nd line LW. Reeves, I’m very happy with, the Leafs needed to get tougher.

  11. Really glad that Holl, Bunting & Kerfoot are all gone. All 3 aren't worth the money that they received from other teams. I wanted to keep O'Rielly & Schenn. I wouldn't of wanted to keep O'Rielly for 4 years at 4.5 mil per though. Schenn will be missed and I would rather of kept him over signing Klingberg any day. Klingberg is not the type of defenceman the Leafs needed. Signing him is a head scratcher to me. I like the addition of Reaves but not for 3 years. He's 36. Absolutely ove the Bertuzzi and Domi signings. I would say up front we got better but on the back end we got weaker. We can already score a lot of goals so to me, the defence needed to improve more and it didn't so I think I have to say they got a bit worse.

  12. We should really compare the Leafs roster at beginning of the 2022 season to this roster going into 2023, instead of post TDL roster. Compared to what we went into last season with, I think the team is much stronger out of the gate.

  13. They got better offensively and in the toughness department.. but kinda weaker defensively which was always their biggest problem in the playoffs

  14. In my mind, Bertuzzi is a direct replacement for Bunting, and that’s an upgrade. Domi is a direct replacement for Kerfoot, and that’s an upgrade.
Klingberg couldn’t be any worse Defensively than Holl(please God 🙏🏼), and he’s a definite upgrade in terms of getting the puck out better on zone exits.
Reaves is 100 percent going to bring down the threshold of chippiness the team has to endure, and if Domi drops someone like he did Kessler, while wearing a Leafs jersey…instant Toronto legend.
The team has gotten better and I don’t think they are through tweaking.
The guys that left are in the last quarter of their careers, and while having some value, could fall off the cliff at any time. This team is younger and more gritty now.

  15. I think it’s still a little too early to say whether or not the leafs got better or worse cause Treliving is still gonna make a move or two on D. He said he wants to overhaul the whole D corps so we’ll have a better idea just before training camp. Plus I honestly believe nylander is gonna get traded. Probably for a d man

  16. Leafs fan from Germany:

I think its way to early to say, if the Leafs got better/worse!

So far we have Murray and Woll in goal, contract issues with 3 of the core 4. An untradable, but overpayed JT… Rielly was the only one taking a discount…
    We are way of Caplimit….

Long story short: There will be coming some moves and we dont know, what they are up to, BUT

I like the way its heading…

  17. With the caveat that Klingberg and I share a hometown (potentially clouding my judgment)- I think Klingberg will have one heck of a bounce back season. Without betting any money, I am predicting Klingberg +60 points.

  18. Bertuzzi said no to more bridge contracts. Well?
The guy has done so much to unravel his salary scale and puff up his own worth. He had opportunities for longer deals that supplies some stability. Not now, if he goes injured this upcoming season for any spell, his value will earth dart.

  19. Domi, i think is gonna be huge in Toronto, watched his dad bleed in that jersey, he's gonna be more motivated than ever

  20. I think it’s the core. They can’t win with them. They’ve had plenty of opportunity to win with them. I don’t trust them at all no matter who they have.

Do think they got worse though.

  21. Bertuzzi is good but the Domi signing is meh. Hyped up because of the name, also no NHL calibre goalie in the roster

  22. it's hard to say whether they've improved since the integrity of the core four is still up in the air

  23. I don't know what to think about the signings of Bertuzzi, Domi, and Klingberg. They're boom or bust imo. Can't really go wrong with the contracts tho. Low risk on their part.
