  1. Just exactly what is wrong the Leafs defense besides the fact the need to be tougher on the back end I mean if its a problem of they need to be better defensively then the do have a couple of D men that play well Defensively so use the tallent from within to make the weaker defensemen you have be better at the game you have the talent there even if you lose some offense for example you say Klingburg is great offensively but he is bad defensively so through coaching and practice make him better defensively you might lose some offense but you make him a better player all round for example Bobby Orr won the Norris trophy 8 times because he was best in the league defensively and he also won the single season scoring title twice because he was the best at offense so that made him a good two way player he did not get that way automatically someone had to teach him those skills to be like that to me there should not be a player on a team that is only good this way or only good that way except the goalie so i say no need to trade FIX THE PROBLEM FROM WITHIN that was what the coach is for

  2. If you ask any professional coach why the Leafs lost to Florida, the #1 thing a professional coach would say is that the Leafs did not have a puck moving defensemen. It wasn't a lack of grit. It wasn't a lack of toughness. It wasn't a lack of heart. It was a defensemen that could create space for the forwards. Rielly is more of a rover, which is why the Leafs were debating between Karlsson and Klingberg. I agree with this decision 100% because if you didn't get either one of those defensemen, Connor Timmins would have to grow up real fast.

With Klingberg and Bertuzzi, Toronto would have absolutely won that Florida series, no question. Both of these guys are going to create so much space for Matthews, etc. It's also going to help Marner out too – he won't have to play quarterback so often, which means he can draw people into the boards more often.

  3. This is easy, buyout murray, trade nylander and robertson, KEEP Brodie!! Sign Sammy!!

  4. nylander is a good player but getting 2 decent players for him could put toronto in a better position.

  5. Piluk.. my guy.. look.. im a die hard leaf fan. ( Not my entire life, I was a Patrick Roy fan all his career and when he retired I came home. ) but it's time to clean house. Blow it up. What's the definition of insanity?? Trade Matty, Marner, Nylander while they still have trade value. We're just putting a bandaid on top of an older bandaid. Build around Knies (you can argue that's the same as what they did with Matty, and you'd be right!) Blow the team up already. STOP trading this guy for that guy, trading this guy for this guy… Stop…Your stuttering when thinking about what we need to do just clarifies it. Build toward the future, not toward a fresh bandaid.

  6. we need someone who is different than. brodie, we need. someone who is more physical and more simple

  7. Robertson in value reminds me of Bracco at this stage in his career, amd we know what happened in the end with Bracco, Trade Robertson now for a young Dman before its too late.

  8. Brodie for 5M is a overpay. He doesn't hit, clear the net or put up points. You can get someone for 3M to do the same job that probably hits people and sticks up for their teammates. Ship Willie and Brodie somewhere for a mean d-man and solid forward. Bertuzzi, Domi and someone you get in a trade will makeup the difference in goals. Leafs lost, Kerfoot, Bunting, Acciari, ZAR and ROR from the forward group. Bertuzzi, Domi and Knies should out score those guys combined. So if they can get a mean d-man and someone that can score around 20 goals for Willie and Brodie, that's a good deal imo.

  9. Brodie has fallen off and he's not a defenceman Treliving covets. Too small, not physical enough. He is the biggest candidate for a trade aside from Murray.

  10. I agree. You can’t give up on Robertson right now when his trade value is at its lowest

  11. There's absolutely nothing wrong with Matthews extending for 3 x 13.4M. That gives the Leafs 4 more years instead of just one. The cap will go up 9-10M over the next 2 years, so when Matthews comes up once again, he'll get another raise. Tavares' 11M deal will have expired, so the Leafs can afford Matthews & Marner. Nylander sees himself as an equal player to Matthews & Marner, but I & many other fans don't agree, as he makes little effort to be reliable on D. If he won't agree to 9.5M as the max #, then trade him, rather than have him walk for nothing.

  12. leafs haven't learned to build the team from the back out yet. i learned this watching the nyi in 1980.

  13. TJ Brodie has been an excellent Leaf. But he’s getting old and is on an expiring deal. If you can bring in a similar player for similar cost who’s younger. I would do it. But I wouldn’t move him for the sake of moving him

  14. I agree the Brodie chat going around is total nonsense. He's our best defensive d-man, and not easy to replace. He had a rough playoff, but he had to get used to playing with McCabe. He did have some amazing brain cramps against Florida, but he wasn't the only one. I have no problem using Robertson as a sweetener if necessary to unload the Murray contract. Don't care what he did in the OHL years ago. He's shown little potential in the few times he's been healthy. He might be better off elsewhere.

  15. Why do you want to pay Matthews that money when he will be going to another team. Get what you can if possible, you may not be able to trade him at this time, or let him walk

  16. Trade Murray? You'll need a 1st AND Robertson to move him, not just Robertson. No one is that dumb.

  17. Brodie is the softest player on the team, he’s an absolute mute, has no offensive ability, isn’t mean, and is 34 with one year left on his contract lmao. Im all for moving him

  18. want to do well in the post season build from the back Goaltending and D, what’s the famous saying great offense wins games, great defense wins Championships!

  19. The amount of hate for Nick Robertson in these comments is pure ignorance
