Ouch. Head down elbow up is always a recipe for disaster.

  2. maplemoose18

What a fucking dickhead. It’s training camp ffs. I have to believe that the coaches tell the players not to fkn run each other over in the scrimmage. It’s common sense… they’re teammates.

  3. Dry-Capital-4996

What a fucking idiot, nice way to lose respect from everybody else at the camp.

  4. Dr_Will_Kirby

Jesus… in a fucking training camp? Really??

  5. sneakyfingers45

This kind of mentality is why the leafs are perennial losers

  6. Proof-Ad-8968

Nothing like taking out your own.

  7. VGKtilDead

    Get your shit together Toronto

  8. tour79

I lived to lay big hits while playing, but never on teammates at a training camp. What’s wrong with that guy?

He never even came back to check on him either. I don’t want 33 on any team I’m on

  9. whompawhompa1

“You just got knocked the fuck out!”

  10. JerbearCuddles

What an absolute moron. It’s training camp. You don’t run your own guy in fuckin’ training camp. Lol.

  11. SaturnDE

That is just stupid. Engagement during training camp is great and all but not being able to watch out that you dont hurt one of YOUR guys is just stupid. I hope Hirvonen gets well soon

  12. grantwolf1971

Hard to judge how bad it was without seeing the lead-up, but dumb as hell hit during training camp on a teammate.

  13. guster-von

Has anyone here ever fought for a spot on a roster? Some of the worst people to play against is your own.

Bet he won’t cut to the middle like that with his head down anytime soon.

  14. psubs07

I can only hope it was accidental, but it doesn’t look like it

  15. MostLikelyDenim

    Keep your head up, kid.

  16. Shiny_Mew76

Clean open ice hit assuming his shoulder never made contact with the head, and while I love the physical play, Training Camp is not the place for this though. What makes it worse is the person who laid the hit never even considered to check on the injured player.

I’d also like to mention that this sort of what camp is for, to make sure the players are ready for the NHL level, but this is way too far. While It’s certainly important to make sure young players are physically ready for the league, this is the type of hit you lay on in the playoffs, not on a rookie before his first preseason game.

I’ll also that that I think both people here learned a lesson. For one, Training Camp is not the place for these types of hits, but also, you HAVE to keep your head up in the NHL or things like this will inevitably happen at the worst time.

  17. BubbaSpanks

    Damn! I hope it’s not a serious concussion…holy shit

  18. adstretch

I feel like this video starts too late. Like the hit has already started. I can’t tell if the player who laid the hit was trucking in or simply crossed paths and turned to knock him off the puck. If it’s the former, a pretty duck move. If it’s the latter it sucks but is just unfortunate.

  19. sor2hi

Did 33 even come back to check on him?

  20. NatureIndoors

Makes the Leafs look like trash, hope we cut that loser

  21. threadsoffate2021

The clip started a good 5 seconds too late. Nearly impossible to see the hit.

  22. mjf617

That hit *on a fucking teammate*?! What a fucking degenerate.

  23. superstarrr99

On a teammate. I get wanting to make the team. But if I’m the coach, I cut the kid who laid that hit.

  24. FrequentBroccoli97

    Eliminating the competition

  25. HoodFellaz

Learning in the OHL versus learning overseas in a nutshell. Shouldn’t happen at training camp though obviously.

  26. Putthebunnyback

    He was all like 😴👍

  27. ragingasshoes

Oh man that sucks. Hope Roni makes a full recovery. He’s one skilled player.

  28. This reminds me of the hit on Horton.

  29. SketchedOutOptimist_

I need to see the 10 seconds before the hit to pass judgement.

  30. JonTheWizard

Think I heard the Punch-Out!! knockdown sound on that hit. Holy crap, take it easy, it’s training camp.

  31. Sensitive_Mousse_445

Take it easy slugger it’s just fucking training camp lol

  32. Xanyol

That’s one way to get noticed at camp

  33. hockeyh2opolo

This feels like the Patrick Sieloff hit on Clarck MacArthur, totally overkill for a training camp/preseason friendly game.

I know everybody out there is trying to make it but this was unnecessary.

  34. MagnustheJust

With a few key exceptions… you never really wanna see someone hit the ice like that with their brainpan.

  35. notlatenotearly

You rarely even get this in game let alone camp. Normally I’d say bro keep your head up but guarantee Roni wasn’t even thinking that hit was a possibility.

  36. YaboyChris28

An over zealous try hard trying to make the team.

  37. BlOcKtRiP

Clean hit don’t see an issue

  38. Affectionate_Ear7468

Cant tell hit happens so early , looked like he got him clean

  39. who987

Horrible clip of it. No time to see the play develop and hard to get a good look at it to see if it was clean/dirty.

  40. fordfocusstd

Ouch, the team confirmed concussion but was walking around later.

Free agent invitee dumpstering a second round and AHL headed pick during a scrimmage, terrible optics.

  41. Ropeswing06

It’s a job interview for these kids. If you can’t keep your head up during tryouts good luck in the NHL.

  42. OkayBuddyThx

Damn he’s laid out like Umberger

  43. admu23

Text book suicide pass, the only real crime

  44. milkisforbabies666

33 didn’t even circle back to check on him
