If fucking better, amirite?
If this happens, its going to be big money and big term. Take your time Steve, get it right.
I for one do not want an 8 year deal. Nor do I want to pay a penny more than his qualifying offer.

I’m going to guess if we do get him, it’s 6 years at 8.25M. Give him a partial NTC, and give him signing bonuses if that’s what it takes to get a lower cap hit. I don’t think he’s going to get signing bonuses, though, if Larkin didn’t even get any.

I know Stevie has an issue giving him the full term, but if it lowers the AAV, then the difference between 6&8 years won’t be that bad. Guess we’ll see what happens if it does.

Article states that the sens and wings have reached an agreement (why cat came off Ottawa’s website).
Apparently cat wants 8.5-9×8. Yzerman won’t come off 7.5×5.

When he pots no more than 25 I’m gonna enjoy being right. Abby had 23 in 14/15 lol

This is unsurprising to me. Does he want to be home or does he want to take an inflated amount that he may not be worth?

I kinda said this in the DGDT about this link, but DeBrincat is younger than the FAs Yzerman has given some term to over the last two offseasons, and DeBrincat’s calling card is an attribute that tends to age pretty well, so I really hope that this doesn’t fall apart because Yzerman won’t go beyond 5 years. We shouldn’t make dumb decisions, but a mid 20s winger who should be a good bet to score 30+ for the majority of his contract is the thing we need most and not something we can conjure up out of thin air. It’s rare for a player of his age and skill set to be available at a discount (trade wise) and we haven’t exactly invested draft capital in players who project to be that.

Hope he gets signed faster than Larkin

If he’s really looking for 8.5 or 9M for 8 years, I hope SY walks away. I do think if he goes to free agency someone will give him that (especially next year when teams get their Christmas money due to the cap rise), and Evolving Hockey has him at ~$9M over 8 years. That estimate is likely heavily relying on his production before this year, and it’s unclear if he’s going to go back to that 35-40 goal per season range. That number puts him with Matthew Tkachuk, Rantanen, and Kaprizov, and I don’t think anyone would disagree that those guys bring more value. I’d argue the same for Larkin (8.7M). He’s probably more valuable than Bratt (7.875), but I’m not sure about Kyrou (8.125M) or Hintz (8.45), both of whom have a clear upward trajectory and signed RFA deals that “bought” more of their UFA years.
I think that’s what makes this so hard – are you getting the Blackhawks/Kane version of DeBrincat, or the Senators version of DeBrincat? Its an unanswerable question, and I’m guessing that’s one factor keeping SY from easily abandoning his typical aversion to length. Guys like Seider and Raymond are going to get expensive soon, and if Edvinsson, Kasper, Danielson, etc turn out then they’ll be getting their big boy contracts in the next 3 to 8 years. With a 5 or 6 year deal you can avoid having 100% overlap.

Wonder if it’s just about $, feels like the Larkin deal

The article just says boom-by-yay over and over?

I hope we get him, but I’m glad Yzerman is sticking to his guns on the term. I have a feeling they’ll reach a middle ground here where Yzerman has to give out more than 5 years and Debrincat has to accept a lower salary due to the uncertainty around his production.
