He turned into a ghost too many times after his last deal. Should we think it will be any different this time around? Leafs need a D core that can actually get the puck to the forwards in better situations. The forwards take all the heat for not scoring in the playoffs, but that’s a harsh critique when the D are fumbling the puck out of your end too often.

Leafs need to be built for the playoffs, Nylander is great but his playoff play is too soft. They need tough guys in the playoffs not just pure skill. Spending $45 million just on four skill players with no grit is not a good plan. As can be seen by the playoff results in the last 5 years.
Nylander is simply not worth the 10 mil he's thinking is reality.
Despite the losses, Klingberg, Bertuzzi, Domi make Toronto look like a Stanley Cup lock for 2024…

Obviously he doesn’t want to be a leaf when the guys being constantly greedy with contracts over a couple million when he makes a bunch in sponsors being on the leafs.. trade him to Detroit for Seider and a pick
We'll never win with everyone making double digits. It's the reason we are where we're at currently. Overpaying more people probably isn't going to help.

They are already 3.2m over the cap with Muzzin's LTIR, and still need to re-sign Samsonov. Trade Nylander and use some assets from that trade to get somebody to take Matt Murray's contract. Use that space to extend Samsonov and have some room & assets for the trade deadline.
He's just going to stay put this year, makes the most sense at 6M. Then if the Leafs implode again come playoffs, he and many others will be gonzo. I'd hope for a total tear down and rebuild, Matthews/Marner included. Fetch a great haul in return
Domi and Bertuzzi are a better fit around Mathew’s anyways.
10M is a bit much for a guy at the absolute height of his power. But I can see a contract comparable to JT Miller as suitable for Nylander. It's not like he is going to crack 100 pts, like, ever. Especially not on a team where he doesn't 2-3 star forwards (say what you will about Tavares, teams guard him close cuz he will kill you if you don't) creating space by drawing away defensive attention.

The season he refused to show up because of contract negotiations stalled, spoke volumes of his prima Donna attitude. The play offs he was on the ice, but he was never there. To me, i would have traded him that same year.

Trade him to the Kings for Drew Doughty. Take some pressure off Morgan Reilly and bring in an offensive defenseman. It’s too big
an ask for Reilly to shut down the other teams best players and chip in offensively as well. Reilly can move the puck ok but coast to coast is not an option. Doughty can still

If Im Nylander and I see AM34 getting a 14m contract, there is no way Im signing for 8m.
Maybe he will take a hometown cut and sign for one year more just to see if the Leafs win then if they don’t he can go elsewhere.

I will give him credit, among their top players he is one of the only ones that actually showed up in the playoffs this year, but the guy thinks he's Nathan McKinnon or Connor McDavid and he's not.
That being said they also got screwed by signing Austin Matthews to his ridiculous contract. No way in hell should they have paid him that much money when he was so new to the NHL. Especially when the dude becomes a ghost in the playoffs.
