    Essentially traded a 1st, 2nd and 3rd *for a* 1st, 4th, and a 20 goal scorer (Kubalik)

  2. No-Mixture6711

He wasn’t resigning in Ottawa. Might as well get what you can. Something better than nothing

  3. Swimming-Fan7973

He wasn’t going to re-sign. It was either this return or he walked as a FA next year for nothing.

In that sense if there was a fireable offense here it was Dorion trading for 2 years of Debrincat when Ottawa wasn’t close to being a contender. But he was the man last summer when he made this trade 🤷

  4. MrSCR23

He had no leverage so there wasn’t much he could do. Thought he did alright tho. Mind you with new ownership taking over he might be gone after next season anyway regardless of how things go.

I am shocked. What a move for Detroit.

  6. UnfairEntrepreneur80

And to think the Black Hawks had him 😱

  7. Hairygull

Damn I like Kubalik a lot actually, oh well one former hawk for another I like the contract as well

  8. Friendly-Target8815

    New owner coming in… probably.

  9. HanSolo5643

When teams know a player isn’t going to stay in a location that immediately lowers trade value.

Why would he lose his job when he actually didn’t even give up that much for him last offseason? Chicago was criticized for what they got in return for him.

Let’s compare this haul to what GMs in recent history that got fired for losing a star player got:

Snow acquired in exchange for Tavares… nothing.

Treliving acquired in exchange for Gaudreau… nothing.

I think Dorion is okay, all things considered.

  12. slizzleshady

No and anybody who thinks Dorion would lose his job over this is delusional.

  13. Constant-Squirrel555

    The issue isn’t the return.

It’s that Dorion acquired Cat even tho he knew Giroux would sign here and we needed D help.

He blew his load on a luxury winger who isn’t cost controlled and needs a hall of fame line mate to score 40g instead of getting a defender.

Dorion thought that Hamonic would be fine as our 2RD. That alone should give him the axe.

Might as well have moved the 7th and some picks for Chychrun or Marino, would’ve made our team better then having Cat’s mediocre play.

If he signs Vladimir Tarasenko, then no, he’s a hero. If part of this trade is cap flexibility, I’m good with it. If he does nothing with that cap space, I’m not.

  15. BigDaddyQP

I think they got back almost what they paid for him minus his time played. I think it was genius

Edit- I’m going to check to see if I’m remembering correctly what they gave up for him

  16. yourFPSfriend

Getting back a haul like that for a 66 point player with 1 year of contract left is honestly pretty good. He doesn’t fit in as a top line player for the sens and I can’t remember a return like this for a second line player recently.

  17. JonTheWizard

I don’t think we’re gonna know for a few years.

  18. Sir-McDoodoofart

Has DeBrincat ever been on a winning team? Not saying he’s the reason his teams lose but clearly he isn’t *that* good

  19. ozzy1771

No way, getting anyone to stay in shitty Ottawa requires a lot of talent

  20. 3Snowshoes

I thought it was a decent return for a player you KNOW isn’t resigning with you. And everyone else knew it, too.

  21. amach9

No, PD’s hands were tied so not much he could really do. However, if he can sign Tarasenko I’ll be happier

  22. fdisfragameosoldiers

Depends. .if he puts up 40 goals then yes. If he plays like shit like he last couple seasons then no, cuz he made the best out of a bad situation.

  23. Senbacho

Some Sens fans during last season : ADB is playing like shit, shouldn’t have been trade ! Shame on you Dorion!

Also some Sens fans during this off season : Why didn’t Dorion keep ADB ? Team is shittier without him and we didn’t get the right return for a guy like him in this trade! Fire Dorion !

  24. TheCivilRanger

Dorian got a good return considering the player wanted to be moved and wouldn’t be re-signing.

  25. umbraviscus

I’m sorry, we all watched the same Debrincat last season, right? He’s a great player but we consistently had 4 or 5 forwards playing better than him all season. He’s not a huge loss, especially not at that cap hit. Kubalik is an incredibly solid middle 6 guy, costs a lot less, could possibly hit 60 points and will help make the other guys in the middle 6 look better. We also get some assets and a new first rounder next draft. Debrincat is a great hockey player but he’s not the difference maker everyone seems to think he is. We’ll see how he does next to Larkin this year.

  26. burnabybambinos

Why would Dorian be fired for moving a potential UFA for a prospect and pick? That’s what they go for

  27. ragingasshoes

What PD got back was decent given Cats down year and no leverage. He stay.

  28. Significant-Cow349

Dumb move to get him in the first place
