Leafs record without Matthews 34-19-2, without Nylander 46-39-12, without Marner 12-13-4. Don’t understand what people are thinking. Hardly misses games…team has lost more than won when he is out. Oh he also played on Tavares line when he had his best year and Matthews during his best year.

Steve makes a point that Matthew et al are not winners and wont take less and Adam says "What about Boston?" Yea, those guys all took less AND THOSE GUYS ARE WINNERS! They have a cup and have been LEGITIMATE contenders for over a decade and have had MUCH MUCH more playoff success than Toronto. That's in a nutshell is the difference Steve is talking about.

playoffs regular season hes just better than willy in every single aspect
willy had 2 goals in the second round and both were off of a mitch marner primary assist
there is literally no moment where william nylander is a better player
no game no time period
he generated literally no offense alone
and hes terrible defensively
like there is no comparable between the two
willy scores maybe 10 goals more
and gets 25-30 assists fewer

Dangle, it's not about "ego"…(per say)… they (AM34 + MacKinnon + Players) all belong to the same union (NHLPA). It is their duty to increase earnings and set precedence's for themselves and their current and future peers, members of their union. That's all it is. It's not about anything else than that. Let's not act like any one of us wouldn't be pushing for the exact same thing if we were in their shoes and had the good fortune to be professional athletes for our fulltime jobs!

How can you simultaneously hold the opinion of
A. Willy Nylanders playoff performance should weigh into who we should trade.
And
B. Being completely accepting of trading Morgan Reilly.
We all know who was better during the playoffs. The tunnel vision on "who in the top 4 do we trade" had allowed this insanity to seep into your consciousness. Play him and Klinger (I typed klingberg but it autocorrected to "Klinger" which will 100% be his nickname) together so they never have to play in the defensive zone.

The difference between this roster and the roster that failed in Florida is that the team will have the whole season to mesh together opposed to a bunch of new players being thrown together in a blender with 1 month until the playoffs

53:55 I still don’t get it. The problem isn’t Mitch or Willy in the playoffs. Your franchise player does not make his presence felt in the playoffs. He wants to be paid like MacKinnon and Connor McDavid, but those guys DOMINATE in the playoffs. MacKinnon is third all time in points per game in the playoffs? If I’m the Leafs, I’m saying, “congrats for scoring 60 goals. Two guys just did it this year and both of them are monsters in the playoffs. Why should I pay you like them?”

I might be one of the only people that thinks this, but I think Marner is more important to the Leafs than Matthews. Yeah Matthews scores a bunch of goals, but Marner does literally everything for the Leafs. Kills penalties, plays on the powerplay, plays really good defensively and is always a threat in the ozone. Tbh Marner should be paid more than Matthews, in my opinion.
The devils players all took sweetheart deals and talked about how they wanted to win as the reason why. Listen to meiers read conference. That’s what a winning culture is

I don’t think it’s a locker room problem why Ryan O’Rielly left, he just can’t handle the Toronto spotlight/media …. Nylander should not get as much as Marner or Mathews because Nylander can’t play the same defence like Marner and Mathews play, and both put up even more offence

Nylander & Domi are not a great defensive combo with JT. I see Matthews thriving with Bertuzzi then Willy flying the wing. Defensively solid Marner helping pick up slack from Domi, but feeding him the puck with JT in front. I like Matthews & Marner best, but these top two lines need balance.

It's hilarious how everyone thinks their guy that's expiring and either wants out or they don't want to pay is worth a Jiricek, Johnson, Mateychuk, Sillinger, Marchenko, or 3 OA out of Columbus. Shut up. You're not getting premiums for these kinds of players. Go trade them for the typical late first, b prospect or two and a roster player.
How do you label the Gaudreau contract an overpay when his deal is 1 year shorter and $750k less than what Huberdeau got, but Johnny is a year younger and has better career numbers? Talk about straining to fit your BS narrative about Columbus, lol. The guy cost the Jackets almost $2M less than what Panarin cost the Rangers.

Leafs are definitely tougher, maybe not better but it will be interesting to watch.
Here’s a thought, what if they bring Simmonds in the odd game on top of the others. Imagine looking across and seeing Simmonds, Reeves and Domi staring and licking their chops at you. There’s no team in the League that wouldn’t be scared shitless to do anything stupid. I would love to see that line brawl with those boys.
