Our new short king is also remarkably durable for being so ‘undersized’.
So tired of the notion that guys under 6 feet are somehow easier to be injured or are inferior playing sports. Our society shames us for making fun of looks, weight, etc. – but not height. It may be a matter of fact but if he can play, who cares about his size.
Last time I checked, Stevie ain’t a big man either. I can understand size being wanted for the obvious reasons – harder to get around, longer reach, harder to push around, etc. but smaller players can still be elite, as we’ve seen in hockey over the years.
Sure if Alex is required to skate in a straight line and knock down Zedeno Chara, my money is on Chara. But we’ve seen Datsyuk knock the big man on his ass too. And we always hear these stories about guys overlooked for their lack of size. Who knows how many DeBrincats or St. Louis or Jose Altuve’s we’ve missed out on due to a perceived flaw of stature.
I for one embrace our new 5’7’’ overlord and hope he’s here for the next 15 years, if only to help shut up anyone who has concerns about his size.
As excited as I am for DeBrincat, he is not Ovie or Stammer.
Love that we can pull a stat like this those. Kind of how Vrana was one of the top 5 on 5 scorers in the league. Nice to finally have players like this though.
