  1. The one big miss about last season. More man-hours were missed than any other team and still won the division. They got a good look at the young guys and what they had even during the first round of the playoffs then went out and made the changes they needed to. Bednar did an amazing job with what he had.

  2. It's now clear the Avs will pull the Kucherov and Stone special: LTIR for the entire regular season, then miraculously healed just in time for the playoffs. When will NHL close this loophole, I wonder?

  3. Honestly one of the most frustrating parts of being a new hockey fan is how closed off everything is compared to other Leagues. Teams/players go radio silent when something substantial occurs like whatever allegedly happened w/ Nichuskin. As a Hawks fan I was frustrated not knowing where Toews was for the whole 20/21 season and not to mention the Kyle Beach fiasco.

  4. So is Malgin gone??? Nothing is official yet other than he's a UFA.

  5. Hard not to think of the Wagner Group when I hear the name Wagner haha

  6. This is now where I say I told you to so to people who doubted my thoughts on Newhook stepping up. I said that the unnecessary pressure was going to get to him and I was right. He underperformed so badly that he was demoted to the 4th line.

As for acquiring more players, don't count on it. At most, it will be for league minimum because most of that LTIR cap space is going to signing Colton. Plus, they will save the rest for the trade deadline

Lastly, why does THG keep omitting Helm out on Avs videos? He doesn't mention that he retired and leaves him out on this video

  7. I think having Ross Colton added to this team will put a little fire under Johansen butt. Ross is a good player, a good reliable player who can shoot. He has 2C potential. As for Drouin, another player where I can see Mack trying to get the better of him. I like what the Avs did. These moves cost very little and have a high reward. But this is a team with a motivated core. So guys either buy in or they’re out

  8. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think Sampo Ranta left to go back to Europe. I think the Avs still hold the rights to him though.

  9. I’m very interested to see what kind of deal MacFarland is going to make to add some top six depth. I’m really going to miss EJ, Compher and ERod. They were major contributors and I hope they all have success on their new teams.

  10. Hopefully playing a bit with his old buddy Mack will inspire Drouin. You’d have to think this may be his last opportunity to write the ship.

  11. The Landeskog situation is heartbreaking. Such a dynamic player and great leader. Hoping the best for him and the Avs

  12. I dont think G is going to be paired with Bo. Both of them are a bit rough defensively, and Bo is the better player inside of the opposing blue line, so I think Manson pairs with Bo on the second pair and G falls to the third pair with JJ, or maybe gets traded to clear some cap space for another forward and we end up with a third pair of JJ-Hunt.

  13. Just an FYI. When someone wants knowledgeable local team coverage to use to research the Avs, DNVR Avalanche is the go to.

  14. Still can't figure out why everyone is so high on the Avs right now… they have an average bottom 6, a sketchy 2C, and average goaltending.

Yes they have Makar, Rantanan, and MacKinnon who are elite… and Byram, Nich, Lehkonen, and Toews who are good players.

That's 7 guys. The rest of the team is just ok. Others like Girard and Josh Manson actually hurt the team when they're on the ice… Just terrible with the puck. VGK would smash these guys in a 7 game series

  15. As an Avs fan, my prediction is we have another great regular season, but unless we add a really good forward, it will be a second, maybe third round exit. I can see Mack and Makar being gassed by playoff time again, best case scenario is we do so good in the season that we can rest the stars for the last 5 games.

  16. Don't sleep on Malinski as a RD. He is 25 at the start of the year and looks great every time he is on the ice. Also a dark horse of addition of Kovalenko after the KHL season ends, as he is NHL ready right now

  17. THey kept Bowen Byram and they win a lot more with him in the lineup.

  18. My cousin goes to DU for law school, and her classmate had dated Alex Newhook, according to her Nichuskin was found in the room with prostitutes, alcohol, and white powder.

  19. man that's a rough lookin lineup beyond Mackinnons line.

does Drouin even make most lineups, nevermind slotting in on the second line..

  20. Is Landeskog done for good or…..?….is he gonna play in the following season after this upcoming season??

  21. I think Colton would ask to step if need be, for the 2C. Johansson would be ask to be that faceoff pp center, which would be more a threat on the pp then Compher was. I think the Avs wanted to address size and talent, even if there was a loss of Newhook. As Avs fan, I was disappoint to hear the trade of Newhook, who by the way would get the opportunity in Montreal, but seeing where the Avs are, that big hole left by Landy did hurt in tight games in the playoffs. I think Johansson would do good with how Lehkonen and Nuke forechecks, might offer up time and opening that he wasn't seeing much in Nashville

  22. The Avs can just load up and magically get Landeskog back at the start of the playoffs. They can maybe convince the Flames to trade them Kadri for a first rounder only if they retain $3mil/season from his salary…

  23. Really glad Drouin got out of Montreal – that high-exposure market was killing him, hope he has a career year 🙂

  24. Ranta is playing for MoDo next year. F. Olofsson is left handed and I have him as a LW. I think needs are a purely for depth. Bottom 6 forward and a right handed defenseman. The team is high on Malinski who isn’t on the board but I think provides some additional d depth. Overall the team is heavy lefties which is why I would like an additional 7th d man type who is right handed. I also wish they could get rid of the turnover machine that is Girard. But, his contract makes getting anything decent for him difficult. He’s a PP specialist at best just like Barrie was and really noticeably not a top 4 d. Team is taking big bets that both Johansen and Drouin can return to the top 6 form they’ve had previously. I think it’s likely one does and the other doesn’t. Then the team gets a forward at the deadline. Can they stay healthy is the other question. Seattle and Dallas seemed to have more depth and health once the playoffs rolled around. The last question other than health from the playoffs is can they get some bottom 6 scoring? I feel like they’ve addressed that issue though. Hopefully Colton doesn’t get too much in arbitration or before. Also what’s the hole up with the Myers deal? And we can still pick up one or two more pieces. Can Val stay in the lineup? So many questions

  25. While I do expect them to still add another depth defenseman this summer, you did leave off their closest to NHL ready prospect on D in Malinski. He was signed as a college UFA last year, will be 25 at the start of next season, and really shined during his debut with the Eagles in the AHL during the playoffs last year. He will likely see NHL games this year and we'll see what he makes of that opportunity. For that last bit of NHL forward depth, they have some internal options, but they have also been very strategic on the waiver wire in the last few years picking up some gems early in the season.

  26. Gabe Landeskog's absence is still devastating
There's no 3rd line on this team right now. two 4th lines
Best top 5 D in the league. J.Johnson is still useful as a 6/7 but easily replaceable

  27. Im not sure if I can watch the nhl anymore if they don't shed a little light on what exactly happened with Nichushkin. It kinda sounded like he had a trafficked woman. The fact that the avs management won't take questions or make a statement about it looks like they're covering something pretty substantial up.

  28. They’ll have a bounce back season this season. Pretty positive about it. They had a very similar season this season as we did last season . Injury after injury after injury. It was brutal and tough on the players . Well. We all saw what happened this season with Vegas after having a season like that. One of the best teams in the league and won the Stanley cup. I definitely expect Colorado to have a similar season. Hoping Vegas doesn’t have cup rust and falls off too much this coming season because I’d love to have a rematch in the playoffs with Colorado . That series in 2021 was a great series . Would love to see our 2 teams match up again in the WCF.

  29. its not only that newhook never stepped up last year, he technically regressed.. i still think he can make it in the league but im honestly happy with what joe and cmac did there. the more i hear about wood the more im not liking that signing.. i guess we will see. nuke better have his shit together… that's another contract that i'm not super happy about. i think they need to move one of those blue liners to free up some cap space and get some forward depth.

  30. You mention Sampo Ranta but the problem is he signed a 2 year deal in Europe so he won’t be around the team, may not come back.

  31. This looks a fantastic retool for the Avs. Of course, there is some risk in adding underperformers like Drouin and Johansen. But it's exactly that kind of risk (of going after undervalued assets) that made Warren Buffet a gazillionaire.

Frankly, it's the kind of retool I would have liked to have seen a year ago, when we lost Burakovsky and Kadri to free agency and Landeskog to a career-jeopardizing injury. Other than that, the Avs have a phenomenal core and they have retained phenomenal defense, the latter which was my only real hope for a title defense.

With the salary cap being what it is, I also don't see any other teams around the league getting significantly better, so the Avs must be at least in the wider circle of Stanley Cup favs. And with a wild card like Drouin in the mix, I am really excited for the new year.

  32. I would expect a good season out of joey. The shake up of being traded and playing with better wings will help his game. He looked really good when He had a shooter like tolvy as his wing and I think hynes not giving that line faith really hurt the preds

  33. I could be wrong but I believe the Avs sent Valeri Nichushkin home after the incident more than he left the team. Alot depends on him to cone back and play strong, especially with Landeskog being out. I feel the Avs tried to gain a tad bit of sandpaper to the lineup with Wood and Colton. Drouin is an interesting addition/experiment that alot of people are hoping succeeds.

  34. Thanks for another great video Shannon! Would you or the comment section be able to help me out with something that's been racking my brain for a while and I cannot see to find the answer by googling it.

Who did the Colorado avalanche draft that didn't want to play for them? He stayed in college long enough to get re-drafted by the new Jersey devils, I believe he was a defenseman.
