Vous ne voulez pas échanger Nylander, mais ça vous irait s’il marchait gratuitement ? (S’il ne démissionne pas)

If Treliving can’t get the deal done then we have bigger problems

  2. We need something for him considering this team
is at the peak of its competitive window. We can get a decent return on assets for him, despite his 1 year term his cap hit makes him more valuable for trades. I don’t think we should re-sign him, we just cannot have 3 players that highly paid, and Marner will then go back and want more than Nylander. Time to stop the player empowerment, if you want the maximum, go play for a shit team who can fit your salary demands. Playing in Toronto comes with money from sponsorships, etc. like almost no other market.

If we won the cup and he was a valuable part of that effort, I would have no issue losing him for « nothing »

But if it becomes clear he isn’t re-signing I think Tre would be stupid to not TRY and trade him. That doesn’t mean you have to trade him though. If you don’t get the value you desire, just use him as an in house rental.

It would really hurt to get obliterated in the playoffs and then have him walk tho

    The answer is:

    Domi-Matthews-Nylander

    Bertuzzi-Tavares-Marner

I don’t think it’s the end of the world if we keep him this year and he walks. As long as we get Matthews re-signed our return on Nylander is 9-10 mil in cap space.

There’s a good list of free agents we can look at next year like Hellybuck, Hanafin, Ago, Sheifele, and Bertuzzi/Domi.

We’ve got a good enough core that if he wants to walk, not the end of the world. What would we get for him? Maybe a 1st? Look at him as a rental this year.

Considering it’s been weeks and it sounds like there’s still no progress being made with the contract negotiations, I saw we trade him now. He wants $10+ million and I don’t think he’s worth it. Brilliant goal scorer yes, but soft. Afraid to take and make contact. Leafs offered $8 million and he wants more, trade him now and hopefully get a solid defenseman.

Someone tell me why a group of these elite players doesn’t just get together for less money and make a dream team that would just crush. Is everyone so greedy that money is more important than a legacy?

  8. Krazier

Just going for it next year isn’t ideal but it’s better than signing him for 10mil. With that said the trade offers would have to be abysmal for me to be happy with an own rental and we will never really know what was on the table if that’s the case.

If we just signed Nylander to a one year deal at $6.9mm as a free agent, this sub would go NSFW for all the pictures of people with GMBT tattoos on their dicks.

Worst case scenario is the team has an extra $7mm cap space next summer.

He’s not going to resign, but he may re-sign

  11. robotinforest

He’s the chip that gets us a penalty killing right handed defenceman

  12. howsshegoin

if a talent like Nylander becomes available for 10m/per 31 teams are buying out players and taking the L in cap dump trades to acquire him

he’s THAT valuable. . . just not in a trade.

no, in a trade I presume the leafs would get absolutely rinsed and he would likely fetch a return that could be potentially franchise destroying

  13. JRocleafs

People are acting like he can walk next month.

We have Nylander and Mathews on contract until July 1 2024. We need to relax on this contract timeline.

Pasta didn’t sign until March/April. No one was overly worried about his contract. Sure it’s not ideal they haven’t put pen to paper but all signs indicate both players WANT to be here, which is favorable

If Mathews and Nylander sign a ‘team friendly’ deal in January or February (or even later) I’d consider that a win over signing them to more AVV tommorrow

  14. phunsukhwandu

Rather trade Marner. Regular season champ, money first, no heart and zero accountability

  15. dannybee66

Yes. He will play for a contract. We wouldn’t get much in return unless the team we traded with was able to sign him long term.

IF we trade him for a rental like his the player would be worse than Willy and also potentially walk next spring. So in that case give me Willy all day.

  16. Papi4President

I’d be fine with him walking for free. The trade off is cap space at the end of the season. Hopefully they go on a deep run!

  17. bigcaulkcharisma

Yeah. Honestly if there’s not s trade out there that makes sense for him, and you can’t sign him to a reasonable number, let him play out the upcoming season then walk.
