The NHL ruined hockey with f'ing up 2018 and then losing 2022 to COVID hurt so bad… We need 2026 to bring this back. It truly is the pinnacle of hockey.
Da. Da. Canada.
Nyet. Nyet. Soviet.
Henderson has scored for Canada.
Canada – Soviet series 1972.
i still got the cover of sports illustrated in my room
Every time I hear Crosby Yell IGGY I start to get emotional lmao
I remember watching this game at a restaurant/ bar in the North Hills of Pittsburgh. I had just taken my 5yo daughter ice skating for the first time. We stopped for a bite to eat and got to watch Sid score the golden goal. The whole place was so excited Sid won it. What a great day!
Cool story bro, I missed it. Pretty epic play
Im an American and Floridian at that but these olympics and that game is what got me watching hockey. 2023 now and im still hooked
Still makes my heart race. I was In my family room and was so excited. I almost fell into the wood stove. I am from Cole Harbour, and we love Sid. In my office for many years was the team pictures of both the Men and Women's Gold Metal Team Photos. So.proud to be a Canadian!!
This is why we need NHL players in the Olympics. It would be so great for the game again.
Old Canuck living DownUnder here. I was in Nelson, New Zealand in a heritage house we lived in for a while near The Brook. Though we're in Aussie now, we still have that house and I can see/smell the room in my mind, all kauri wood and high ceilings, heavy curtains and drafty as old Kiwi houses tend to be. The TV signal was crap and I only had sound. Early in the game, upon observing the intensity of the game, an announcer from England remarked "see here, these lads are out to hurt each other" Yup. Despite every level of interference on the airwaves, I heard Crosby yell "Iggy" and the rest they say is history. But I'm old enough to remember Paul Henderson's goal in Russia in the first Canada Cup decider. I was in the library at my junior high school in Parksville BC and the whole school was watching a grainy small black and white TV with the sound cranked to distortion. Both times, this crusty Canadian teared up.
Just a game?
I now hope to live long enough for a Canadian team to win the Stanley Cup
Excellent job.
1987 Canada Cup. Canada down 5-3 to the USSR. We tie it up. Less than 2 minutes left and the score is 5-5.
Gretzky to Lemieux.
6-5
That was pretty epic as well! 🎊🌟🎶🎉💥😄
it was a great game and so exciting and best of all I was in Maui watching it at the hotel with a room full of Americans, man did I celebrate.
Gull & Firkin, Queen St East, Toronto
This is probably one of your best videos. Def one of my favorite. Excellent
As a Wings fan, this is when Crosby became my most hated player. First, he beat my Wings in 2009 to win the Stanley Cup then he beat my home country with the OT winner to win Olympic Gold the very next year.
Please do more of these "welcome to a moment in history" style videos!
Forgot how good toews and Kane were
This video gives Secret Base energy, very well done. Not a fun memory though
How about Jason of The Ottawa Senators breaking in on Cary Price and roofing the puck.
i think the miracle on ice is the most iconic
I was working at Costco in the electronics department, had all the tv's on the game tons of members were all watching – it was pretty cool!
“And welcome to a moment in history….”
When it comes to the greatest goal of all time I suppose it all depends upon what generation you belong to. I would submit that while Sid's goal was a masterful moment in hockey history, the greatest goal of all time belongs to Paul Henderson and Team Canada which was scored in the final minute of the final game of the 1972 Summit Series between Canada and Russia. Unquestionably the finest hockey series ever played. The incredibly talented Russians shocked Canada, and the world, early in the series but after eight games Canada had redeemed itself with a remarkable comeback. With all due respect to Sidney Crosby and his teammates, I'll take Paul Henderson's series winner every time.
Im an Aussie that grew up not knowing what ice hockey was. I started following team Canada that year when I caught their first round game randomly, after watching this gold medal game, I’ve been a die hard hockey fan ever since. Best sport in the world !
More NHL rewinder please
I was an Ovi fan for the first few years, I think this goal made me jump ships and I've been worshipping 87 ever since
In an alternate universe Miller had his stick down and Luongo let one go in high glove side Maple Leafs style
I remember this like it was yesterday watching it from my seat in the rink it was an experience I’ll never forget.
This felt very much like a SB nation rewind video, not that that's a bad thing, I loved it
I tear up whenever I watch these golden goal replays.
watching this vid gave me chills. i was 7 and remember enjoying the mario and sonic olympic games and wasn’t much of a fan of hockey but ik how high the stakes were. looking back, international hockey needs to return to this. super teams facing off in gold medal games
