I wonder where he is going in Canada? HNIC has some rumoured big changes, maybe he fills in for somebody who is getting a promotion. Canucks, Oilers, flames, and 1/2 of the leafs are Sportsnet broadcasts, but those guys are pretty well regarded in their markets.
Edit: my money is on Calgary or Vancouver, the Canucks have a part time colour guy spot and the Calgary guys might be some of those getting axed.
