Picks mean nothing. Especially that late, regardless of the draft. Newhook is a proven experienced stanley cup winner at 22 yrs old. Other trades can be made, othe picks can be gotten. A plug in play player like Newhook is an auto win.
As a Newfie Goofy and a die hard habs fan I am pumped to have Newhook as a hab his upside is great, he'll only get better!!

Newhook was represented by Kent Hugues players agency. What a bummer to learn that Kent have traded 31st and 37ty draft picks to hire one of his client who is considered by Colorado to be a marginal player. Will Habs rosters be filled only by Kent old clients who played college in the Boston area?

I believe this trade foreshadows another one at the draft, with the Habs trading down and getting more picks.
But we now have an over-abundance of NHL caliber forwards.

Deep draft or no, trading the down-the-road potential of a 2023 #31 (and #37) for a ready-to-go and about-to enter-his-prime 2019 #16 seems like a masterstroke to me.

Mixed feelings is right. They have to sign this guy and are stuck with him if he doesn't progress. Sucks at faceoffs, not the greatest point production and it cost them a 1st round pick in a depth draft where players around the 31st pick would have a higher ranking any other year…and a 37th.
Dach was in a bad environment of an organization and was a 3rd overall pick, Newhook is a different story. Betting on Colorado gave up on him for a reason.
Price was too high IMO.
Who's on their way out? Dvorak, Evans, Beck…Monahan is a given to go if he stays healthy by the trade deadline. A couple have to go now.

FUCKIN SICK, i can't believe they went with Reinbacher, I feel like my Mom just kicked me in the balls! Not sure what happened to, "We will be drafting the best player available", because Leonard was still there, i thought for sure, FOR SURE, that's who they were gonna go with. Wow, just sick, this was SOOOOOOOOO important. Reinbacher had THREE goals last year, and he isn't playing in the NHL, and i dont mean three goals in 10 games, i mean THREE goals in 46 fuckin' games. Ur telling me HE was the best player available at 5??? Leonard was there, Michkov was still there. Fuckin Kotkaniemi pick all over again. Would love to see a video where you dig deeper into Newhook’s stats. Like career faceoff performance or how many of his assists are primary assists. As always great work Junkie.
To answer to your question is out Hughes had nothing else for the draft. He picked Reinbacher at 5th and considering the depth in offense of this draft does not look like a smart move at this point but unless Reinbacher becomes a superstar défense it will be a wasted pick.
I think this was a good move. The Habs now need players for the next season, not just picks that won't make it onto the roster for another couple of years.
