Ross Colton’s new deal with #GoAvsGo is 4 years x $4 million, buying three UFA years.

  2. Square_Saltine

So Avs have about 2.8 mil left and probably still need a 4th line winger? Do they get someone or do you guys think they’re done for now

  3. BCLetsRide69

Decent. I Hope we get a significant cap raise next year. Would’ve liked if Miles Wood’s length was the same as this though

  4. golieman99

Seems a bit much for a bottom 6 guy but maybe I’m off on that assessment.

  5. MIKKOMOOSE99

Does that leave us with any cap space to grab an extra forward or defensive depth piece?

  6. gallapagos42

Okay I was way wrong about Colton being cheaper than Newhook. Glad we got good term though

  7. Vivid_Walk_1405

Damn more than I expected. We’ve got 2.8 remaining then

  8. CrunkyNutter

Kinda wishing we got Newhook at his 3.5… hopefully Gulyayev is a stud

Overpaid. I like the player but don’t like that cap hit one bit. This « Cap going up so its not a big deal » talk doesn’t speak to me one bit if you’re using that cap to spend on bottom 6 contracts like this instead of saving every penny of that future cap you can to make sure Rantanen and Makar stay and avs their entire career. Should’ve just re-signed Erod (1 million less) and kept that early 2nd pick imo.

EDIT: Dom Luszczysyzn is a one of the most well known hockey analytics guy in the NHL and his analytics show we overpaid by 800k per year.

I’ll wait to see how he plays with us but my current opinion is that this is too much. Lehkonen’s cap hit is 4.5m and he’s a bona-fide stud for us.

  11. Blu3Yeti

I actually like this. He’s really going to solidify that middle 6 I think. And the contract will looks good here when the cap inevitably goes up.

  12. Mackinnon29E

Why the fuck are we overpaying everyone all of a sudden? This does not bode well for depth the next few years.

Kind of feels like an inflation adjusted version of JT Compher’s last deal with us. Not a discount but not outrageous for a 3C especially with the cap going up

  14. Ace676

Seems like a bit of an overpay, but not by all that much. And with the cap going up a lot in the coming years, it won’t be an overpay at all. Just hope that he can be a legit middle-6 player, if not we’re in trouble.

  15. Burnzie79

A little more expensive than I was expecting, but also longer term than I thought we’d get. I was anticipating 2 years at around 3.7M

  16. tour79

Josh Bailey is unsigned, I think he fits in our remaining budget. He would do well on bottom six

  17. zackflag

I said this in another thread but I think it bears repeating. We’re way better off with Colton for 4M than with JTC for 5.1M.

  18. AuntGentleman

Everyone calling this an overpay is missing the fact that he was headed to Arb. The only way he got this much ahead of the arb case is because they knew arb would result in this or more.

  19. RandomNewfie

I think based on that value, the Avs management is clearly expecting him to be more than a 3rd liner. Probably more middle 6 throughout the season.

I’m suprised the Avs went the trade route with this though, giving up a early 2nd rounder now when a 4×4 offer sheet would have cost them their own 2nd next year which would most likely be a lower pick. I guess that’s the cost of having exclusive speaking rights to him.

  20. brunnor

Was hoping for 3.5 AAV, but happy with the 4 years. That’s a couple UFA years at least.

  21. FUPaladin11

I’d say take care of my boy, but I live here – time to get my Alternate Avs jersey customized for Colton?

  22. elishaski

So not replacing Landy this year I guess?

  23. jonnyb8717

Good player, fair market value; let’s go Avs!
