    >In many respects, where Vancouver is right now reminds me of where the Edmonton Oilers were just a few seasons ago, with a sharp talent skew to the uppermost parts of the roster. If you have watched a Vancouver game in recent years, you know there are effectively three unique teams:

    >- The Canucks with both Pettersson and Hughes on the ice.
    >- The Canucks with at least one of Pettersson or Hughes on the ice.
    >- The Canucks with neither of Pettersson nor Hughes on the ice.

That really is the best way to describe how this team plays.

    Good quote:

“I suspect Vancouver also believes their defence’s general inability to play with the puck has impeded an otherwise talented forward group, and that bolstering this part of the lineup can also be fruitful for the forwards.”

There’s a lot of emphasis on defensive signings via FA and we all want to believe Soucy and Cole will propel us from a below average dcore to something more playoff worthy, but if these defensive guys can get the puck to our forwards, not names Pettersson and Miller, the rest of the forward group will also see a jump in performance and hopefully translate to: playoffs.

Next season, Hughes and Hronek will be on the ice for 45-50 minutes, that’s 75% to 85% of the game. I don’t think people understand how much of a big deal that is. They will both also be paired with good, defensively solid partners in Cole and Soucy. No more Harmonic and Schenns. The penalty kill is going to be much better, and with a healthy Demko, it is hard to see a repetition of the previous 2 years. Todays NHL is a special teams league. If you can win the special teams battle, you are almost guaranteed a playoff spot. Every single team that had at least a 20% net-powerplay and a 80% net-penalty kill made the playoffs last season.

Yost is horrible. Earlier today the same article had Yost claiming Bear had left the Canucks and signed a 3year deal with Edm

Lol yost makes 100k clicks a year on this one article he puts out about the nucks, combining enough realism with an intoxicating dose of copium and we read it every year, maybe I’m just a cynic but it’s kind of objectively hilarious

I’ll believe it when I see it, boys

Healthy Demko, semi-reliable blueline beyond just Hughes, and a continued offensive output and the team can contend for the playoffs. But we gotta hope that Raty and Willander prove to be ready to fill those gaps in 2ish years time. Cole and Blueger are on 1 year deals. So the top 4 issue and 3C issue will be present again very soon.

Raty should be NHL ready next season, maybe another year in the A to refine his game though. But I can seem him slotting in 3rd line at some point in the next couple seasons. Willander is a wild card, but I can see him being ready for the NHL in 2 years. Not saying it’ll happen, just saying it’s possible.

But yeah, as far as next season goes. As long as Demko can stay healthy we go as far as he carries us. Our blueline isn’t complete garbage anymore and Blueger should breathe life into our third line.

Haha, it’s like a game of Canucks roulette! Which team will show up tonight?
