@Red Wings de Détroit

1. 6 – Larry Aurie. There are no other numbers retired to represent this era and the number is technically retired already anyways.

  2. 13 (Datsyuk) 2 cups, Lady Bing and Selke Trophy Winner and the most dazzling Red Wing I've ever seen. Obviously 91 "Fed Ex" belongs up there too. Long overdue IMO.

  3. Datsyuk hasn't just been a gamechanger for this franchise. I think his creativeness changed the game of hockey. Whether his number ends up in the rafters now or later I think there should be little debate it belongs up there.

  4. There’s no number on a banner other than 19 and 9 that deserves to be hung more than #13

  5. Sergei? Absolutely! Scotty – the Yankees have WAY, WAY, too many mediocre player's numbers retired and they don't even have the most HOF players! The New York/SF Giants do and the Giants haven't retired a dozen Bozos like the Yankees have. BTW, I told you about Baez at the time the Tigers signed him. The hot dog that isn't that hot. The GM that brought him in had no idea what he was doing. Back to hockey. 13 and 40 were the best Wings after the salary cap was brought in. That's easy.

  6. Make #6 Aurie official official. Obviously #91, and #40 and #13 on the same day. I'm not sure anyone else is at that level if we maintain the standard (that standard being elite talent AND how long they played).

  7. I think the only reason we should expand more numbers than 91, 40, and 13, is that if we allow a sub category of honor. Like a "Red Wings Hall of Fame" that isn't a technical retirement but lists all the awesome players we've had. Maybe they get like a little penant instead of a retirement banner. If we allow too many to be retired we'll run out of numbers lol

  8. Every retired number except for Sawchuck is a Captain with at least 11 years as a Red Wing. Shanny has no chance. Sawchuck holds/held many goalie records. Goalies are not made captains so Sawchuck is exempt from the Captain rule.

  9. 1. Fedorov absolutely
    2. Datsyuk without question
    3. Zetterberg no Contest
Shanny, Chelios, Konstantinov, I can totally agree with.
Hate this opinion if you want but I think you can also make a serious arguement for Ozzy, he is the definition for being overlooked because of the players around him

  10. I think it would be great to build a Red Wings Hall of Fame onto LCA, like the Packers have. To put our players in as another way to honor those players other than retire there jersey or additional to

  11. 91,13 and 40 are all sure bets for number retirements in my book. I would also throw names like Draper, Maltby, McCarty or Holmstrom into the mix.
No cups without these guys putting in years of hard work in the dirty areas.
Also fan favorite Bob Probert could be a potential candidate though doubtfull to make it.

  12. I think Federov's jersey would look lovely hanging in the rafters of the Honda Center in Anaheim.

  13. They should stop retiring numbers Except in extreme cases. 9, 7, and 19 are enough. Unretire the rest.

  14. Datsyuk won’t get his jersey retired only because he’s Russian and it’s really dumb. Same as fedorov. The illitch family needs to stop being hard noses and treat these players with the respect that they deserve

  15. Didn't the Wings offer Fedorov more than Anaheim when he left? I could swear that he left for LESS money because he wanted to see if he could be the number one guy.
