    Unless the Leafs management can give Matthews a guaranteed Stanly cup; well… he will sign for 3 years. However if it is just about the money then I say fuck Matthews and trade him. On the other hand if the changes to the Leafs are not made to make the proper changes to win a cup the he will hold out and not resign; forcing a trade….and since he really has faith in Dubas, then I see him going to Pittsburgh

    I don’t get how he’s worth more than mcdavid or McKinnon!! He’s a great player don’t get me wrong, but he’s not a leader yet and he hasn’t taken over games/series’ when it matters most. He’s only truly changed the ending of one game against Tampa in 2023 first round… that’s it in seven years! He’s worth less than 10 mill imo

    4-5 years at 13-14 million setting him up for a mammoth 8 year deal at the age of 30 or 31

    TRADE HIM!!..he is not worthy of being the highest paid player in the NHL…get what you can for him and move on. This from a true Leaf fan who expects better and wants to win!

    Please the leafs need to totally revamp that whole squad I would say trade em all get newbies from the minors build…till that happens they will continue to lose

    I wouldn’t even try to resign him.. he has had his chance and can’t play after the regular season! He may light it up during the regular season but disappears in the post season. He shouldn’t be in the same conversation with McDavid and McKinnon! Both of those guys can take over a game, literally put their team in their back and get it done. They lead by the way they play the game.. Matthews is about himself. He doesn’t want to be in Canada. So trade him now while you can get something good for him. Be it prospects, active players or draft picks… just make sure they are good players. They need Defenders! Solid, Big Defenders! Look at the teams that have won the cup over the past decade, they have Big Strong D-men who can skate really well, clear the front of the net & have Offensive abilities too! There are enough high priced forwards on this team that can get the puck in the net.. and a few coming up that can also do that! Offence wins Games, Defence wins Championships…. In any Sport!!
