I don't much about auston matthews so I don't know how good he is but from the outside looking in he really doesn't seem (at least to me) to be in the same tier as McDavid or Mackinnon. 14M seems like a crazy high number to me…

the leafs are notorious over- payers so they have baked in the situation they are in with willie. we always refer to treiliving in these talks but let's get real, it's shanahan who is the shot caller here and he stubbornly wants to run it back with this ineffective group. they are 8 million over the cap right now so i think nylander will have to go.
Man… as a Pens fan, I’m so grateful we had stars like Crosby, Malkin, Letang, and even Guentzel, that have all took several team friendly deals. This team would not have all them cups.
At this point as a long time Leaf's fan I am on the fence. I feel like if no trade's are made that is a clear message that Shanahan has said no. If they try go back with the Core 4 and it fail's yet again that will be the end for a lot of fans. I hope they start to do what I did , have not spent a penny on anything Leaf related till they improve in the post season for over 10 years. Nothing will force change that is needed more then revenue loss. Looking to forward to watching COL, SEA , and VGK.

Nylander ain't worth 10 Million Dollars. He plays an offensive not defensive game. You wouldn't bake just half a cake? When it's time to negotiate he shows up. This is just getting silly with all these players concerned about money than about winning a cup. Even Samsonov wants close to 5 Million Dollars. No Cap Space, I see a trade happening.

Mathews and Melander should have been told The Leafs are a business and the team business is to win cups. Maxing out personal contracts won’t help the team win anything. Sign a deal before July 1 or be traded to Winnipeg. Now it’s to late ,Leafs management have failed miserably for too many years. I won’t be watching any of the Leafs this year, at least I have the NFL til January.
