Once Murray is gone, who dresses when one of the two goalies is injured? Also trading him is the only option as Murray and his agent will fight a buy-out (he is due $8M this year) and will fight LTIR if he is not injured as it would end his career..
Is Auston Matthews an all around top 10-20 player or is he a top 5 scorer? If he is an all around top 10-20 player then sign him up and let's go. If he is a top 5 scorer then trade him for all the things. I think he is more just a scorer than an all around carry and lead the team up and down the ice horse.

I don't understand why people say they're fans of Kyle Dubas and what he did in Toronto. Dubas had nothing to do with the Leafs acquiring Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Rielly or any player of significance. The only memorable moves Dubas has made are the bad ones, the Kadri trade, the Murray trade, the Marchment trade, just bad moves all around.
I think Matthew’s is going to Phoenix AZ. I would trade him now, before he walks away to free agency.

I heard a rumour recently that the Hurricanes and Leafs were talking about a deal of Pesce, Necas the Hurricanes 1st rounder and a prospect for Marner or Nylander and Liljegren. Would you do this deal? I know I would (although I would probably want to move on from Marner).

I hope to see Matthews just 1) plays out his existing contract and 2) takes the highest offer he gets and wants (even from the New York Islander to even up things from JT’s past). Shouldn’t Leafs fans maintain loyalty to Matthews and Dubas – even if Matthews signs with Pittsburgh and wins his cup with the Penguins? It just looks like Leafs will go another 50 years without a cup in Toronto – the way the Leafs executives over paid the Leads core 4. Maybe I will be proved wrong?
It wasn't Lucic that hit Mike van Ryn, it was against Montreal, and if my memory is correct it was either Tom Kostopolous or Glenn Metropolit that made the hit.

It really is absurd that the Leafs always have overpaid players, if any market in the NHL could make-up the contract dollars from off-ice endorsements it's Toronto. Let's pay Marner five million per year and work out a deal under the table for Skip-the-Dishes to pay him the other five million.
A good goalie will save 1 extra goal per game and make 25 saves that make a difference and potentially win you a game when it matters.

The reality is Auston Matthews has to do what's best for Auston Matthews. He has brought some very specific fruit of his labor to the table for the Leafs but his future is filled with free decisions that will empower him to achieve his full potential. Free agency may be his optimal path to wealth and development sign or trade the blue and white will be a better organization, go Leaf's go. 🎨
