@Predators de Nashville

1. Nashville are a playoff bubble team that is going to be strongly positioned to slide into that last wildcard spot in the West.

  2. Defense and goaltending, my foot! This is easily the worst D-core I've ever seen the Preds put on ice and Josi and Saros are two of the most overrated players in the world. Also, Tomasino, Evangelista, Kemell, Novak, Carrier and Stastney are all pretty much useless at important aspects of the game.

As far as changes go, basically Luke Schenn replaces Mattias Ekholm, Schenn is right handed which would have been very helpful a year ago but isn't really needed now, overall definitely a big downgrade.

Ryan O'Reilly replaces Ryan Johansen, pretty similar in a lot of ways, but I'm guessing most people would consider that an upgrade, personally I wouldn't be so sure and with Johansen being 30 and signed until he's 32, whereas O'Reilly is 32 and signed until he's 36, I really would have preferred to stick with Johansen.

Gustav Nyquist replaces Matt Duchene, ok that's a MAJOR downgrade and probably the biggest difference of the bunch! Just for perspective, in the last two regular seasons combined, Duchene put up 142 points and 65 goals, whereas Nyquist put up 80 points and 29 goals. (Yeah, way to go Trotz!)

And Denis Gurianov replaces Tanner Jeannot, both young, both physical, both have scoring potential that they may or may not realize. So who knows?

So all in all we've given up some of our best players, which would only be ok if we were going into a FULL rebuild, but we're not, instead, and despite all the changes, we hardly look any different, just not as good, especially for losing Duchene! And oh yeah, we're returning to a Laviolette style of play, because that was working so well back in 2019.

The whole "winning culture' thing is just a bunch of horse-feathers! All it really means is, trying to get all of our one-dimensional young players to consistently overplay in the regular season, and thereby squeak into a playoff spot every year that we have no business getting, so our management never has to make ACTUAL improvements and put together a team that can actually win IN THE PLAYOFFS. The fact that it also means we never get a high draft pick, without paying through the nose for it in some kind of trade, is a nice bonus.

  3. Preds are gonna lose a lot of one goal games. Gotta score eventually. I dont see them going higher than 25th in the league in scoring. Meaning one injury on D and its over. Someone said 3rd in central, not likely, my guess is 6th, maybe worse if yotes surprise.

  4. I think they are in rebuild mode now. They have a great crop of young forwards to develop along with a strong D core with some young guys there still. Forsberg and Josi arent moving ever, so they should be great teachers for the next generation. I am not expecting a fantastic season by any means, but I think they will be exciting with new faces both on ice, on the bench, and in front office. I think its exciting for those of use who have been wanting some major change for a while now. Go preds!

  5. Who's gonna score is the question. I mean, outside Josi and Forsberg.
On the other hand, D and Saros might be enough to make Playoffs even without scoring a lot.

  6. I’m not completely sold on what Trotz is doing, but getting rid of the Skeletor lookalike as coach will help them.

  7. I think they are a dark horse to totally bomb this season and be in the running for the draft lottery at the end of the season. Especially if Josi and Saros miss a lot of time.

  8. Pärssinen had 25 points in 45 games solid rookie season, i have high hopes for this season about him. Maybe 2nd line role after O'REILLY and 50-60 points at 82 game could be it. If so they might have center position covered but you might wanna look middle 6 Center anyway. Maybe Granlund can come Back after Pens buy him out or somebody like J Toews If he is good to play for one more year

  9. Im not a Preds fan, but my gut is telling me not to underestimate them. I dont think theyll make the playoffs with how much the center depth is lacking, but i think theyll be close

  10. i'll give Trotz a pass since he just began his job, but as a first trade, getting the rights to Galchenyuk for Johansen and then just not signing him at all was… odd at best.
also odd was the fact they were seller at the trade deadline and started winning after.
they could be the surprise team in the west.

  11. The goal of the Predators is to always be competitive and end up in the middle of the league.

  12. Let’s give the young guys good shots. Saros and the d can cover for them. If we get good steps forward from our young guys and consistent play from our vets I’m happy. I mean if we fleece a few teams at the deadline I’m happy to, no one huge though

  13. enjoy your channel! I live in Ontario and have been going to OHL games since the Battalion and the Ice Dogs started in the league. Can't afford Maple Leaf tickets, so the OHL is the best way to enjoy hockey. Leaf fans for ever.

  14. Wtf is Trotz doing? Duchene buyout makes zero sense. ATM they are incredibly weak up the middle. He might not be worth 8 mil but he’s still a season removed from over a ppg and given the choice between that and dead cap space I’ll take the production.

  15. So we're expecting another sell at the deadline year for picks? Likely another stressy season but hopefully with a better opening few weeks

  16. Barry Trotz in Nashville 1998-2014:
We need to be a tough team to play against.

    Barry Trotz in Nashville 2023-
We need to be a tough team to play against.

  17. Be very surprised if they make the playoffs. Strange things happen I guess. They do need a couple of high draft picks. a 1C and a 1st pair D ideally. Not sure if they'll get that next summer. I think they're low key rebuilding, somewhere between a rebuild and a retool. No real hope of anything much next season and it's obvious they don't have the scoring. They'll still be looking to make a hockey trade to improve their chances imo, but when that doesn't happen, don't be surprised if they start to shed players in Feb.

  18. Glass, Novak, and Parssinen are all very young players with very promising potential… Our center lineup isn't too strong at the moment, but if even one of them pops off, it could make a huge difference. But that's a big "if".

Also Sissons typically plays center… guy is a face-off monster. Perennially underrated defensive forward (he's gotten Selke votes in the past) and has a special place in my heart as one of the few vets left from the Cup Finals run (where the poor guy had to play 1C against Crosby+Malkin after all of our injuries…).
