  1. The MOST important move the Leafs need to make is to bring in a veteran coach with a winning record… until then this group will keep producing nothing but a solid regular season.

  2. He has one more year, right? I’m ok with letting it play out, but I would not extend him yet. He’s been outcoached consistently in the playoffs and if it happens again I wouldn’t mind a change regardless of regular season results.

  3. The Leafs did have some measure of playoff success – back in 1993. But since then – does it really matter who coaches this Leafs Core 4 in the playoffs? There just seems to be continuous playoff disappointments – but at least the Leafs do fair well in the regular seasons. Top 25 % in regular seasons & bottom 50 % in playoff teams – is basically their record.

  4. Die hard Leafs fan here: jeez…this isn’t Hue Jackson of the Cleveland Browns here. The truth is the core 4 have to get their act together. Enough with the stage fright of the playoffs. Do you think any other coach will do any better? No, honestly.

  5. Treliving moves so far are horrendous, defensively they've taken as big hit as that ruzzian warship in the black sea.
Dubas had quite smartly brought in Schenn and Gustafson to plug the massive holes they've been having and what does Treliving do ? He let these guys go only to sign Klingberg who can't even defend on an AHL rookie for the life of him. Keeping Holl would have been less stupid of a move. Heck even letting go of Bunting to replace him with guys like Domi & Bertuzzi is a defensive dip, if not a plunge.
Sure they'll score quite a lot but they'll be hemhorrhaging goals like they're Richard Zednik's throat.

  6. The players are coach killers doesnt matter who coaches them. Dubas shoulda said yes to tkchuk for marner

  7. keefe is a good coach, after the series i did want him gone. but i am now more upset by the players, the core is crap they cant do it. i am gonna cheer for them regardless but they are terrible

  8. I don't think Keefe is the problem, and I didn't Dubas was the problem. I don't even think the corpse 4 is the problem. It's just a matter of time before scoring depth, team cohesion, good blue line, and reliable, consistent goal tending all gel resulting in a Stanley cup for the Leafs. I'm predicting it will happen in the next 5 years. Firing Dubas was in my opinion just cosmetics, and any talk of replacing Keefe or even trading 1 or 2 of the corpse 4 is pointless..

  9. He hasn't done anything as a head coach with the rosters we've had, seasons worse than what they've done would have been looked at as a failure season. But he hasn't coached them to a division title outside of the bubble year let alone conference titles or presidents trophies and obviously no Cup . He was out coached and they got outplayed in their single post season win.
Sure he is a fine NHL Head coach but just fine doesn't cut it to win championships and with the core they have they need to be aiming for no less than the cup every single year

  10. I heard Parros turned down Treliving. Couldn't handle the Toronto mEdIA.

  11. I think keeping Keefe is good, as he says he looks at this as a new position. Part of me wonders if someone besides Keefe had a say in the lines and they weren’t all his decisions, as I remember he said in an interview that putting in the amateur goalie against Montreal wasn’t his idea, it came from higher up

  12. Keefe appears to be a coach who does fine during the season, but can't adjust to the playoffs. (The coach mirrors the stars on the team in this case, and vice versa). Being regularly outcoached in the playoffs is a dead end street, so surprised that the Leafs are sticking with him anyway. Maybe the core of 3 threatened to throw a tantrum or something if he was let go.

  13. As a leaf fan I think Keefe should go. Don’t get me wrong it’s not all his fault they lost to Florida. However like you said he gets out coached in the big moments. Or why I like to call over-coaching. He changes the lines completely after winning 3 games in a row against Tampa, for no apparent reason. Anyone who’s played hockey will attest, when you’re a player you get comfortable playing with guys and you like to know you’re hoping over the boards with your regular line mates. This in my opinion was a huge factor in the boys lack of offense in the second round. If he doesn’t go, I’d like to see him coach a little less for lack of better terminology. Figure out what works. And don’t fix what isn’t broken with the lines.

  14. I think Keefe is doing what he can with this core. I'm just struggling to believe in this core even with the new additions.

However I do have Matthews on a contract year in Fantasy to let it ride babyyyyy

  15. Nobody is going to win with top players who don't go anywhere near a corner. Idgaf who the coach is.

  16. Treliving's either being lazy or being told not to change things by the powers above him.
If they're not willing to change the core of players and balance out the salary more evenly throughout the team then they might as well keep hold of Sheldon Keefe.
Maybe we'll be lucky to get through the 1st round again and write history by making it past the 2nd… Wow, I'm hyped for that.

  17. TO were beaten by a really hot goalie more than anything else. So was boston and carolina. They all hit the wall which was the florida goalie. He turned normal in the final round.

  18. fans can say you kept him too long as much as you should of kept him longer once the coach is gone. i think keeping him is a good idea because the team wont have to change to a radically new coaching system. And with tweaks by a long existing coach then there isnt the "Now they have too learn the new system" cuz they got a new coach

  19. Hes an AHL coach at best. He doesnt hold his players accountable for anything. He gets out coached year after year. HE'S the reason the Leafs are 0-13 with Wes McCauley officiating. The 1 time he actually says something about 1 of the players, HE APOLOGIZED FOR IT!!! Despite his poor performance, hes the one that kept putting Holl out because Holl was his pet. What did Keefe do to make him Keefe 2.0, because all I see is the same clown that doesnt know what hes doing.

  20. Keefe is being kept around by Brad to be offered up as the sacrificial lamb if the Leafs get the boot first round of the playoffs again.

  21. Not a leaf fan.
However, if there is a coach than can get it out of this group,
    it’s this guy.
    Just saying.

  22. Leafs needed better players than what they had. This is on Dubas. Believing is Trevliving.

  23. Treliving has so much to do with signing free agents and Nylander and Matthews, knowing he has an okay coach means a coaching change won't happen until these other issues are solved.

  24. Not a Toronto fan but Keefe did what no other coach managed to do in 19 years: Get the Leafs to the second round. It feels like he should have confidence from the fans and team from that accomplishment.

  25. he runs the top two lines into the ground even when the bottom six is filled with great shutdown guys. makes no sense, they cannot get to the finals like that.

  26. 166 wins, 71 losses & 30 OT losses is Keefe's record as head coach. Rather imprssive really. Yeah, under his coaching the Leafs have won just one playoff round, which is disappointing at a minimum. There were mitigating circumstances with key injuries, playing in the pandemic bubble in his 1st year & the one-off Covid Canadian division the next year with no fans until yjr last couple of games. He lost Tavares game 1, Muzzin in game 6 & Price, in what turned out to be his his last medicated hurrah, morphed into 'vintage' Price in game 5 & kept it up all the way to the final. The Hab's fairly tale ground to a halt vs Vasilevskiy & Tampa, a way better team. In 2022, the Leafs narrowly lost to Tampa in the first 'normal' playoff for Keefe. The difference, to keep it simple, was Vasilevskiy in games 6 & 7. I thought Toronto outplayed Tampa for the most part. I don't blame 'coaching' for that loss.

This spring, the Leafs beat Tampa, still an elite team, but then lost to…..again, to keep it simple, a absolutely red-hot goaltender in Bobrovsky, who then managed to upset Carolina in 4 straight, despite the fact Carolina outplayed Florida in every game. Does that mean Carolina should fire Brind'amour because his team got swept? Does that mean he got 'out-coached' by Maurice? No, it means a formerly massively overpaid goalie flop, magically turned into the Vezina version of himself at age 34 & carried his team to 3 consecutive upsets over Boston, Toronto & Carolina. Sadly, his epic heater, just like Price's, ended in the final. The 10 day wait for game one likely cooled off Bob. Cup history is littered with excellent teams that got upset by lesser teams riding goalies who got on timely heaters. It happens a lot. Hill, the Vegas 3rd stringer, was way better than 'Bob' in the final. I understand why Tree retained Keefe for now.

  27. Im split down the middle myself. On one hand, he got us to the 2nd round. No coach has done that in nearly 2 decades.

On the other hand. That team last year post trade deadline was loaded beyond relative belief. Certainly the most stacked in my short life time.

Personally im okay with them keeping him going into this season. But I would like to see a shorter leash when things get a bit rougher.
