Fixed him up for life salary wise I suppose, but not on the ice

Basically Risto’s turn around came from Torts benching and subsequently dropping him to third pairing, forcing him to focus on the defensive side of the game. Eventually rewarding his renewed game with more minutes.

Charlie cautions « Well, let’s not get carried away just yet. This was, after all, just one season. Ristolainen has nine years’ worth of poor results that should give one pause before confidently declaring that the 2022-23 version is the real Ristolainen. »

Charlie then says he grades out poorly still due to his cap hit. But a comparable player for the rest of Ristos career could be a Justin Braun type circa 2015.

Sort of? He’s not abysmal defensively anymore but that’s largely due to torts banning him from chasing hits which led to him being way out of position, it’s not like he’s a defensive monster tho, he’s probably slightly below average, however all this defensive work has led to becoming even more of a black hole offensively, still a terrible trade, still a terrible contract, but it’s a slightly less terrible contract

He’s definitely holding his stick correctly in that picture if that’s what they mean
