  1. How could you not trade 1.5.. mln from Petry contract with some 4 round pick and get enough space for 2 call-ups?

  2. Master work of a trade. Haven't seen trades this caliber since early GMJR (Those probably didn't have as much POP though). Now I guess we wait and see if it all works out. I am hopeful.

  3. Ey mate if you get a PTO I better get one too. My resume: Ive been hit by 6 cars and can still walk

  4. There is a lot to be excited about going forward with the Penguins. Kyle Dubas, at least for me, gives me a huge confidence level.

Our bottom six is serviceable, compared to the mess that Hextall created.

Our goaltending situation is going to be fine, if Jarry can stay healthy.

One thing that stood out to me, during Dubas press conference, was that he has signed a lot of players to create a competitive atmosphere to make the team in camp.

Frankly, I am JUICED for this season.

Separately, but I am sure something that is on Dubas mind:

Very curious to see how things play out with Jake Guentzel's extension.

Very curious to see what next summer looks like when Austin Matthews hits the market (if he doesn't re-up in Toronto).

Exciting times, as usual, in being a Pittsburgh Penguin fan!

  5. I really am enjoying the transparency of Kyle. He's articulate but doesn't talk over someone's head. He uses feedback from all staff including coaches to make the right decision. It's an awesome improvement over the last bunch. Love the show!!!

  6. I'm sure the pairings will be sorted out through trial and error process, but one would imagine that between Letang and Karlsson, Karlsson is the least defensively capable, so therefore Graves would be a better fit to better balance things out, as Graves is probably the best defensive defenseman they have. That, and Letang has experience playing with both Pettersson and even POJ, so why make every pairing this season a completely new and unfamiliar one when they don't have to? Graves and Karlsson by default will be playing with completely new partners no matter what, so why not make them the only one pairing that needs to sort things out and get familiar with each other?

Also, I know it sounds crazy, but why not have Pettersson on the 3rd pairing if they can get POJ to work with Letang? Yes he would be undervalued there and that's a lot to pay a bottom 6 defender playing small 5v5 minutes, but since he will be on your top PK unit, wouldn't you want him to be more rested than if he's on either top pairing putting up big TOI minutes with Karlsson or Letang and then has to kill penalties? Isn't that a bit much for Pettersson? It's bad enough 36-year old Letang is out there shorthanded, which is part of why his minutes are so high every game. Plus, if you are looking for a traditional shut-down pairing, Pettersson/Ruhwedel sounds much better than POJ/Ruhwedel.

Last season the PK was tops at 92.5% before Christmas and then cratered to one of the worst in the league at season's end. How much of that has to do with players like Letang and Pettersson getting gassed by all the 5v5 minutes and PK time? You traditionally don't have your top 6 forwards killing penalties because they are more valuable being rested for even strength and PP play, so why shouldn't that apply to defensemen?

The point is, they have the depth now to spread things out and not overtax one position or role.

  7. DK! Now that Dubas has shown his ability to do the unbelievable with the Karlsson trade. Do you think he is working on getting Carter on the move? Is it doable?

  8. Letang has always been the best pk player on the team….not the bottom pair. Chad did the other minute or less a lot last year.

  9. No idea how Dubus pulled that off..played the waiting game i guess. Puts us back in contention again….but….We still have a starting goalie who is not playoffs proven and an old(er) team, and are the Pens playoffs tough? All up, we're in store for some very athletic, skilled, fun hockey this coming season..I see a goalie acquisition and some grit added some time…Dubus isnt done.

  10. DK, what do you think HCMS's leash looks like now? Last year he strung together some ugly losing streaks, with this new lineup what happens if they go on a skid in December?
